What's the big difference between "splits" and "broke"? And what the heck's a "jouranist"?

How quickly we forget the state of economy of Michigan that was handed to Gov Jenny. Apparently, once Engler left office he was no longer responsible for the years of decay.

And Jenny has had 5 years to do something with it and has done nothing but make it worse. She has raised taxes every chance she gets. She refuses to sign measures to get a grip on welfare. She does everything the exact OPPOSITE of what she has always promised in her campagnes. Wait.. except being blown away. I think we are all about blown out of the state.

How many more years are you going to blame Engler for something he hasn't had any control of for 5 years? How many more years is Engler going to be blames for Jenny's incompetence?

Educate yourself, you ignorant liberal, seriously!

For his achievement of a balanced budget without tax hikes, Governor Engler earns our highest marks. In a year when some 30 states legislated a record $17 billion in new taxes, Governor Engler opted instead to reduce spending. That, plus the Governor's pursuit of a ballot initiative to cut property taxes – coming on top of a legislated property tax "freeze" – shows that so far, he is not content to simply stop the growth of government in Michigan. He wants to reverse it – a long overdue objective we sincerely hope he doesn't abandon.

just out of curiosity, what does this plane breaking in half have to do with the governor, although i agree she does suck at her job, but i dont see the relevance to this here topic.

It's not like they have never broke anything in half before.

If I flew, I'd be a little more nervous flying now than ever before. I don't fly. One one my "irrational fears" was that the plane might split in two. Hmm..

Perhaps I'm mistaken, but isn't the legislature responsible for passing legislation that raises taxes rather than the governor? As governor, she can sign or not sign that proposed legislation, but it is your Michigan sentors and representatives who pass the legislation calling for higher taxes. Seems there is plenty more blame to go around...

I too am not a Granholm supporter but I have to say some of these people on here are just plain pathetic. A broken record that keeps repeating the same, sorry, tired, old, un-informed prattle.

They actually look for ways to work it into stories that have NO connection whatsoever to politics.

I may spend more time here than I should but at least my life is full enough that I understand when I am wasting my time. If I had nothing else better to do than stare at my keyboard waiting for a chance to type 'liberal' or 'Granholm' into every post I came across I am quite sure I would put a gun in my mouth and end my rueful existance.

What a waste of electricity.

I agree with you 100 percent, now with it almost being a certainty, we will have a Democratic President for the next four years at least, the Democrats will continue to blame the Bush administration for our problems the next twelve years, just wait and see. Oh before I close, you just watch and see if you do not see a Obama & Clinton ticket. It would be unbeatable with all that money and liberalism.
God Bless America.

Which also means that Jenny got to say what was and wasn't in the budget as she has veto power. Don't you remember her stating she would veto every budget that came to her desk without a tax increase? Don't you remember the different tries the senate and house tried before they could finally agree to something along the lines of what Jenny 'wanted'?? I remember watching her in repeated interivews on TV stating she would work with the House and Senate for a balanced budget, and then not a WEEK later state she would veto every budget that hit her desk that did NOT have a tax increase in it.

How about the fact that she said if the gov't shut down becuase of the budget, it would not be essential services. And yet the first thing she went after was the SOC and the State police. She even had the gall to try to block them for going completely VOLUNTARY to make sure we were safe on the roads when she ordered them not to work because of the budget.

Yes, the Senate and House have to pass the budget and then send it on the the Governor to be signed. BUT, the Gov can choose to veto said budget because of something they don't like. Jenny's was tax increases. She has also veto'd putting limits on the amount of time you can be on welfare. She has veto'd making welfare recipients submit to drug testing. The first thing she threatens to cut in a new budget is school funding.

Yes, there were plenty of things that Engler made a mess off, but this budget and tax increase is all on Jenny. She didn't have to sign it - but she refused to sign a bill without an increase, even though she didn't learn from the tax increases she put into place earlier in her term.

I also remember both times she ran her promise that education was First and she would not cut education funding. Hmmmmm
