I grew up in inner city schools and worked there. Bringing an actual weapon to school (no butter knives or plastic tableware) should result in an arrest. Actual school infractions should be taken care of in school. Crimes committed in school are still crimes.

Zero tolerance has been taken to the extreme, with Kindergarteners being accused of sexual harassment for innocent actions. But I still say that crimes belong in the criminal justice system. I have seen too many examples of schools trying to do the police's job, and it having dire consequences.

No. I grew up in a family of teachers and school employees and have an active role for 24 years in a private school school board

From the article posted:

[Civil rights advocates have said those policies lead to a school-to-prison pipeline that discriminates against minority students...

...The administration says research indicates that racial disparities in how students are disciplined are not explained by more frequent or more serious misbehavior by students of color. In a letter to school districts, officials say they've found cases "where African-American students were disciplined more harshly and more frequently because of their race." (AP)]

I think before we start making "groundbreaking" skin color-based changes to how we handle lawbreaking students the statistics this administration is basing their decision on should be made public.

Let's see some of that transparency we were promise.

Changes should never be skin color-based. As I said before, it should be based on the actual infractions.
