Louisiana Senator Elbert Guillory has been a Democrat for most of his life. But after doing some research he's learned he was in the wrong party and recently joined the Republican party. After all, it was the Republican party which was founded to end slavery and the Democratic party that upheld Jim Crow laws.

http://townhall.com/columnists/starparker/201...

Elbert Guillary is now the first black Republican in the Louisiana state legislature since reconstruction.

Listen to him to understand why a conservative black leaves the Democratic Party.

He called the Democrats “the party of disappointment” and expressed disillusionment with Democratic policies on abortion, gun control, education, and immigration.

I wonder how long it will take for the liberal scumsuck media to declare him an Uncle Tom? You know the democrats still approve of slavery, just slavery of another type.

They have already started Dr X. It took them (the media) about 12 hours to decide he was everything but a Black person who made a choice.

I have a feeling that more African Americans are going to wake up soon and discover what I've been saying for the last 20 years; "good ole southerners can't whip you no more but they sure can chain you like a dog if you let them'.
Everyone knows the democratic party's southern ties. The Dept of Education has done a good job at smearing over that one. I'll bet you Jimmy Carter dreams of the old days in Georgia.

The republicans took all the pro Jim Crowe democrats away from the Democratic Party with Nixon's southern strategy. Your grasp of history seems to be limited. You sacrificed the black vote so you could win the south. But yet you pat yourself on the back and claim you're still the party that abolished slavery. If your party is the real black person's party then why do the GOP conventions look like a clan rally? Face it, whatever your party used to be it is no longer. If this guy likes guns, wants women to be forced to carry out pregnancies and hates immigrants then why was he a democrat in the first place? Good for him, he found his place. It certainly doesn't mean the GOP can be labeled as a minority friendly party. The presidential voters made that perfectly clear. It's OK, we'll let you tell yourself that minorities belong with the GOP, we'll all laugh as you say it but seriously, knock yourself out.

And we continue to laugh at you for believing the Democrats care one whit about you for something other than a voting bloc at election time. When there are no elections, the Dems say "what people do we care about? Oh yeah, money and big business". The little man and the poor only count at election time. And history backs that premise up big time. Of course, you would have to read history to try to understand it and not just take the Dems and the media's word for it.

Evidently Sen Guillory disagrees with you - and between a senator and a Topix troll, well, we'll see who makes a difference :)
Kind of hard to play the "clan rally" thing when, as this article indicates, educated African Americans are crossing the party lines,(notice I said educated), but please continue banging your antiquated race-baiting drum. I enjoy watching liberals make hypocrites of themselves as they pretend to care about equality and erasing the color barrier, yet their entire argument depends on the perpetuation of racism and victim-ism.
Jules wouldn't know what to do with herself if she couldn't play the victim card, and you can bet your Obamaphone she'll rant and scream and do everything she can to keep racism alive and well. Unfortunately for her, more and more minorities will begin to see the lie that is liberalism and decide they can do better in life without big government, and Al Sharpton, pretending to protect them.

That's interesting considering the changing title of the democrats over the decades. Remember Woodrow Wilson? He segregated all black people from his administration claiming it was better for minorities. This was back when your party decided to call themselves progressives.

Black managers were demoted or fired, even those with many years of service and no white could report to a black manager. Wilson even praised W.D. Griffith's,'Birth of A Nation', a nice little bit of cinematography that glorified the Ku Klux Klan. Wilson was a progressive democrat.

After awhile your party decided it would be best to call themselves liberals again because the term progressive was connected with segregation thanks to progressives like Woodrow Wilson. Instead of using outright racism to keep the blacks down, the newly self-anointed "Liberals" decided to use racism to pander for votes. After several decades of convincing minorities that "your party" was looking out for them but never really accomplishing anything to advance the minorities situation in America, they decided to go back to their old moniker of "progressives", and bring on a black president to really gin up the base.

Regardless of what name "your party" gives itself, it's same old principles exist, and they are based on how best to use racism to garner votes, power and money.

Your party has gone from keeping black people down with ropes and violence, to keeping black people down by convincing them they're victims and they need to be subservient to a government that feeds them, clothes them and protects them because they can't do that for themselves.

Face, whatever your party used to be, it still is ... regardless of what you call yourselves.

Blacks are crossing party lines? Is that why Romney's vote total consisted of 88% white people? Is that why he managed to only get 2% of his vote total from blacks? So what you're really saying is blacks should be republican but aren't able to see through the democratic fog and that they play into the victimization. Wow! And you people wonder why you've become the Grand Old White Party!

BINGO! And if you don't like the sounds of that don't blame me, you voted for the party that perpetuates victimization pandering for votes. Your statistics only prove my point.

What has your progressive liberal democrat party done for black people, aside from hook them up on a drip of government aid, food stamps, and promises of something for doing nothing? Have they improved the public educational system? No. In fact, all they've done is strengthened a union who's only mission is to protect teachers, whether they've earned it or not. Blacks still rank dead last in education with no signs of improvement despite 4+ years of a president who you'd think has more interest in that problem than any in the past.

Have they improved the employment opportunities for black people? No. In fact, with our current unemployment figures in it seems your party hasn't managed to help ANYONE find jobs, let alone the ill-educated inner city poor black people that you all claim to be so concerned about.

As a conservative I believe black people can do anything they want. They can be as successful and happy as they want, depending on how they decide to work at it - just like every other color in America.

Why do you think black people can't take care of themselves, Jules? Why do you think they can't succeed without help from the government and social justice?

Seems to me what I'm saying is black people are equal to me and everyone else around here, while you're saying they are not.

Who's the racist again?

I don't think it's very smart of minorities to continue supporting a party that manipulates them for votes and tells them they have no self-worth beyond that which the government helps them achieve, if that's what you're asking.

I guess I have higher expectations of black people than you do, because I expect them as Americans to want to strive on their own to achieve the goals they desire, not rely on the government to give it to them. And I expect that equally across the spectrum of races in America.

Black people have had a tough road to travel for sure, but more than ever they have opportunities to change that. What choice are they going to make? Are they going to take on those challenges and work for their independence, or are they going to continue voting for the party that tells them they're still slaves and they need the government to take other peoples' personal property and give it to them for doing nothing more than being born with different colored skin?

You're only stupid if you allow yourself to be.

The republican party has a long way to go to get back to their conservative base, but my hope is along with dumping the grand ol' party mentality, they continue to gain minority presence in their ranks that can send a message to everyone that they don't need an Obamaphone given to them if they've achieved enough independence to purchase their own. Only then will black people be truly free.

Well...considering that only 63.5% of them graduation from high school on time (compared to 91.8% of Asian students and 82% of whites) and less than 20% hold a college degree, you do the math...if you're capable of it.

What's your point? A level of education has nothing to do with intelligence, you do know this right? So you think black people are stupid? And Oneal wonders why people think conservatives are racist.

I don't wonder why some people think conservatives are racist. I know full well why, because like you they've been conditioned to think so. Look at the Tea Party as an example. Very black people show up to Tea Party rallies. Why? The basic fundamentals of the Tea Party have nothing whatsoever to do with race. Smaller government, fiscal responsibility, and an adherence to the constitution.

Are you telling me most black people don't believe in those things?

No, the values of this group have nothing to do with why more black people don't attend Tea Party rallies. They don't attend because they've been told by the media, by musicians, by actors and by politicians that the Tea Party is filled with racists despite any evidence whatsoever.

Vox's statistics are correct, and it's a shame. A low-education doesn't necessarily make someone stupid, it does make them ignorant. If you can't read well how can you possibly expect to compete in today's society for higher-paying jobs and advancement? If you've never been taught about the history of America how could you possibly make an intelligent decision on what the best path our country should be heading down, and who is best to take us there? If you've never been taught analytical skills, how could you ever expect to be able to tell the difference between lies and the truth?

Black people are no more stupid than any other race. They have just as much potential as any other American. As proven by our current president, they can achieve the highest position in the land, and by Senator Guillory, the ability to think for themselves and break away from the liberal narrative.
Racism is no longer an excuse for coming in last in education and first in imprisonment.

Come on, Jules, you know what I'm saying is true. If all you have is "the GOP is racist", you're only perpetuating ignorance and proving my point.

Oh, but it has a great deal to do with their level of ignorance and that is a fact that you just can't seem to grasp. That level of ignorance has an effect on the choices they make and what they are willing to believe without questioning.
It also has a lot to do with their ability to earn a living and studies have shown that more than half of our prison's and jail's current residents never graduated from high school (ie they are more likely to engage in crime).
These are facts, not racism. If you don't like these facts, go volunteer in your community and work to change those numbers.

So black people are ignorant now? And that's better than calling them stupid? Keep digging your hole, you are exposing more and more the deeper you get.
