This time around we want to do it right for the Loyalty Square area established in the late 1930s and early 40s--Delaware to Dickinson--Century to Madison; with Auto Zone in place at Hall and Division, with Subway building a new facility at Division and Zeno, with McDonalds Restaurant building a new outlet on the Plafkin Brothers-Grand Rapids Bolt and Nut property which they never sold in the first place, we now can do something special for the community by repurchasing the South High School property which boarders Salem, Hall and Jefferson streets, and put in place a Fine Arts Academy in honour of Glenn Litton and Donald Armstrong who was Supervisor of Music in the Grand Rapids School system for many years. This Fine Arts Center will attract students from all over the United States, and from other countries as well. We have individuals like Brent Fischer who is now conducting Clare's band in Los Angeles, Dirk Fischer-Clare's brother who has done arranging at the College of The Canyons in California, Arno Marsh and so many others who once they realize what is actually going to happen at South in Loyalty Square, will be enthusiastic and delighted to see such innovative thinking. There is no end to what Loyalty Square and South High can do together; Jake Brady used to get up on the stage and lead a cheer at an assembly of students; he represented the Spirit of South High which in essence was the spirit of the community coming together to make a better future; this time with the Loyalty Square Merchants, community, and a Fine Arts Academy, we cannot miss.
