Sadly, pipebomb will have to settle for second with his 'Shaniqua and her 3 kids' comment.

So when Vern gets don losing, why don't you do the brave thing and have the trailors towed to your property so you can have your day in court also?
What a nice jesture that would be. Betcha $10 you lose also and your attorney is the only winner.
You hope. You are another one that doesn't understand that taking away the free speech rights of someone you disagree with puts YOUR free speech rights in jeopardy. Whatever.

We know you don't. Sitting there drinking and playing cards while you surf the net at work again? Don't worry...the union will protect your useless hide.

The children here apparently have no idea what Zoning is or why it exists.
You want rules then move to an association.. Personal property still needs to be protected......

I could have also mentioned going back to the thread on off-shore wind turbines, not in front of me topic. This form of patriot only uses rules to control the others and never themselves.

Actually, where I live now is a part of an Association. They are however, much to your disappointment, subject to the same Zoning Laws and Construction Laws as anyone else in Fairfax County Virginia.

The best example recently of an entire State that resisted being subject to Codes and proper Zoning laws was Louisiana. After Katrina they realized letting someone build with no regard to Codes and Zoning was a huge mistake. The insurance companies refused to pay to rebuild under such conditions. Louisiana then passed laws that required rebuilding to be done according to the ICC codes and local Zoning laws.

Anyone with any common sense would realize there are certain limitations and restrictions that are required to maintain unity within a jurisdiction. Limiting roadside signs, their content and placement are a part of any such jurisdiction. Look it up.

It's a double edged sword so to speak.
Yes there is an abundance of History here and lots to go see and we have done so. We've visited the Civil War Battlefields many times. The museums in D.C. are great also.
The downside is the high cost of living and the traffic congestion and population density.
I don't plan to retire here...
Richmond on the other hand should be nice. There's lots to see there also...minus the issues here in Northern Virginia.
If they decide to come north I'd advise them to drive up late afternoon or evening. Stay in a Hotel somewhere like Springfield near a Metro Station and use the Metro to get in and out of D.C. Don't even dream of trying to drive into D.C. It's a nightare during the day...parking is scarce and expensive.

We went to DC when i was like 14, and i loved it....went to a restaurant, Blackie's House of Beef....they had this huge cut of Prime Rib, that actually almost lapped over the plate...lol......Yes, i talked recently to a school friend, whose wife has a powerful job and they were transferred there, from Olympia, Wa....he spoke of the traffic and high prices....Frankly, i loved Olympia when we were there...lol....I have a Confederate Cavalry sabre from Richmond...among my favorite antiques......Studied and admire Robert E. Lee, so would like to see the area he lived in....interestingly, much of it is Arlington Cemetary, as i have learned....BTW, do you plan on retiring in Michigan?

I think the farmer made his point. His signs made every news channel in the area. Now remove the eyesores and walk away having accomplished your goal.

If it breaks an established ordinance it's not protected under freedom of speech, it's just lawbreaking. Just because the message is right doesn't mean we need to support breaking laws. Leave that to the left, Code Pink, New Black Panthers and the good for nothing squatters formerly known as OWS.

I notice none of the liberal do-gooders on this site had a problem with the now defunct handful of OWS losers in Grand Rapids spray painting graffiti on a business before they stuck their tails between their legs and fizzled out. That violated several laws and created an eyesore, not to mention vandalized someone else's property.

Too bad the OWSer movement whiffed out. They were supposed to represent the progressive transformation of America, right? Hmmm ...

If it indeed broke zoning laws, then yes, it needs to go. However, then the township should be responsible and take down every similar ad and not allow them anywhere in the township.

Indeed. Are there other signs around there that break the township rule? If so, they should be subject to the same rules.

Out toward Fowlerville there's a barn on the side of 96. The owner had a gigantic message painted on the roof, "Kid Rock Help Us", or something like that. Not sure what he was hoping some mullet-headed rocker, who's 'Bad Ass' beer is nothing short of weak pea water, was going to do them, but I noticed the message has been taken down. I'm guessing either Kid Rock finally helped them out, or the township stepped in and made the owner remove it :)

The problem I have with the signage ordinance is it is applied different for personal property as to compared to business property. If you have enough money you can put up any sign you want. Freedom can be expensive.

Actually, speaking from experience, it has everything to do with if the ordinance will withstand a constitutional challenge.
It's a First Ammendment issue that only a Court can decide. Once a jurisdiction confirms their sign ordinance holds up they are golden. Otherwise it goes up the chain on appeals and will end up in the Supreme Court.
There are no distinctions between personal or business property that allow one more rights than the other.

There's not supposed to be any distinctions, but hey this is west Michigan. I kind of like reading some of the nutty things people write on them. Cheap entertainment.
