Why did it take nearly 48 hours to issue an Amber Alert?

I believe there are steps that need to be taken before the alert is activated. I know that seems frustrating. Law enforcement has to investigate and have very good reason to believe the child has been abducted or is in danger. I know that is one reason why there is a delay. A lot can happen in 48 hours, so I hope and pray for the best.

Yeah, seeing as how you are taller and OUTWEIGH your 'abductor' by more than 50%, may Common Sense please be with you...
And WHAT of the child who was being 'babysat'?

Yes I agree. this story is very odd. First the kid who was babysitting was 15 with a tattoo, and was much larger than the guy their are suspecting of abducting him? Also, why did it take 48 hours to start the amber alert....reguardless of proccess, if a child is missing it should be automatically.

WOW! Always nice to have to watch a commercial before getting to the Amber alert. Way to go news 8. can't you block the commercials on something this important. or do we have to sit through them on the net like we do the TV?

I, too, wonder why the Amber Alert wasn't issued more expediently. What good is the Amber Alert, if the perp gets away with the kid....alot CAN happen in 48 hours. I pray this kid gets home safely and is unharmed. My heart goes out to the family of this boy. No one is safe anymore.

The process for the Amber Alert is crazy, you HAVE to wait so many hours b4 they can issue one. I think that we could save a lot of kids if they would issue them a lot sooner than 48 hours, most things happen within the first 24 if not sooner. I hope he is returned home safe and sound.

I hope they bring Ashton home safe. He is a good kid (regardless of the tattoo...).

Yes, I too have heard there are many hoops to jump through before an Amber Alert is issued. Which is sad because the first 24 hrs are the most crucial. Hope this boy is found safe. Regardless of the circumstances. Maybe we all should look into getting the Amber Alert changed?

I thought the whole purpose of the Amber Alert was NOT to have to wait any specified amount of time?

I guess it's at the discretion of Law Enforcement Officials:

The decision to declare an AMBER Alert is made by the police organization investigating the abduction. Public information in an AMBER Alert usually consists of the name and description of the abductee, a description of the suspected abductor, and a description and license plate number of the abductor's vehicle, if available.

Size doesn't matter...what does is the mental aspect or if there is some sort of weapon someone is holding on you. Let's pray for a safe return and for the family!

I agree that the law enforcement has their rules on when to send out an amber alert but it is a proven fact that most children who are abducted are not likely to live past the first day. kinda messed up huh? Because they usually have to wait atleast 24 hours to put out an alert. doesnt make any sense to me!

What does that have to do with anything? I hope the boy returns home safe, no matter what the situation or story.

Amber Alerts for teens are tough calls. People do not undertand there are literally dozens of kids missing around the metro area at any given time.

I would hunch this was treated as the kid voluntarily absenting himself but something has changed since the initial call to the police.

In most cases cases that meet criteria can be issued with no delay. What they are not telling us is Mr. Rider is a sex offender and his crime in Luce County was with a 13-15 year old.

Time for us to pray this boy is brought safely back home before something awful happens....
