Maybe they should not take so many trucks out onto the job. They only have one or two people per truck and then they stand around all the trucks while they are running wasting gas and tax payers money ! Maybe they should schedule the jobs a little better so not so many trucks are out there.

Nah, they will just raise tolls again.

I'm sure another emergency toll increase will have to take place with people traveling less because of the high price of gas.

First of all, if we got rid of the Thruway Authority, the DOT would take over and our taxes would go up because of the extra work. Then we would all be paying for the out of town people to use the thruway instead of them paying for it with tolls. Yeah, good deal! Plain and simple, EVERYONE pays for the DOT (through taxes), but only USERS of the Thruway pay for Thruway....I think I like it that way instead.

Second, this guy from Grand Island who is questioning the mowing..did he ever think that it's a "SAFETY ISSUE"?? For example, the grass gets to be about 4 ft. high. You are traveling down the road at about 70mph. All of a sudden a deer jumps out from the tall grass and you smash it with your car and risk serious injury to yourself and others and probably destroy your car. Yeah, that was a great idea to cut back that mowing! Too bad you couldn't see that deer ahead of time because the grass wasn't mowed..... some people have to think before they complain. And channel 2, why didn't you bring up this side of the mowing story? Let's start thinking people! But, I do agree, reducing the area that is being mowed may be a good cost saving measure.

Thats what I was thinking. I know the reason it is mowed isnt to look pretty, but to increase visibility should a deer be in the grass.

Come on, how often they mow the lawn is a story now. If they didn't mow it someone would call and complain about how bad it looks.

With my travels on the thruway I see to many trucks & men just for doing a single man job thats economy ?? yes I used to work as a repairman mechanic so I have a good idea about how many men are needed for a simple job its just more denial from the NYTA

Are we cutting back from going to our jobs??
Please, ask a more cost efficient question than "save money and not mow".

As a daily drive of the thruway I welcome the grass cut. As "RR" mentioned it is a safety issue. Have you seen all the dead deer? Is it not easier to see the deer when the grass is short rather than high?

Can't wait for winter when they ask the question "do you really need to plow when the snow falls?"

I bet it goes something like this in the phone call.

Thruway: Yeah
WGRZ: Channel 2 here. We have some questions.
Thruway: Oy vey!

I think that the Thruway Authority really skirted the answer. The average thruway employee makes $25.00 an hour, those tractors cost over $30,000.00 ea, and Diesel Fuel is over $5.00 a gallon.... Now how many miles of Thruway are we mowing? No kidding that tolls are as out of reach as they are!!! This is literally millions of dollars to mow a lawn!!!

It`s not just the thruway but ALL highway departments that are run to waste taxpayers dollars, if they had to run like a private buisness and actually make a profit or go bankrupt they would all be bankrupt, Highway departments are a joke and should be replaced with inmates from our overcrowded prisons that are a huge burden on taxpayers as they can lean on shovels just as well as a 25$ an hour guy who got the job cause his daddy works for the 'HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT"

Unions, that's all I need to say. Have four trucks and 3 guys stand around while the Newbie, who makes the least, does all the work. It's what killing America, you don't need to be paid $25 an hour you are a waste to society!!

Roadwork is hard work. Why dont some of you try it for 8 hrs a day in the 90 degree heat, and see if you dont stop to take a break now and then?

Standing over 350 degree asphalt, cutting brush, directing traffic (especially after almost getting hit a few times...), loading or unloading dirt, slopping around in dirty sleuces, etc...

take your pick and tell me if you would want to do it after you get out of your Lexus or snobby BMW ... And no, your yuppie weekend warrior crap doesnt even come close to what many of these road crews have to do..

Bambe???? Obviously you've been inhaling too many fumes from your gas guzzling SUV. Can't wait until gas is $7 a gallon by Labor Day for all the SUV dummies out there.

We can save even more by getting rid of the Thruway Authority all together.
We already have a Dept. Of Transportation.....Sounds like double dipping of my taxes.
Great idea Joe. We don't pay enough taxes here in NY. Now you want me to pay for the thruway users? If you don't want to pay the toll - don't drive the Thruway and your taxes didn't go up a cent. Think about it!!!
