What posseses you to venture into the Niagara River in icy conditions without proper gear? Their ignorance put the two rescuers and others in danger. Darwin Award nominees.

The Upper Niagara suffers no fools.
Wet suit, suitable pfd (worn- not sitting in the bottom of the boat)a cel phone in a waterproof case, letting others know where you are going and when to expect you back.
These are the minimum requirement.
Oren Baris of PathsPeaksPaddles has an excellent safety and rescue course for canoers and kayakers.
I'd highly suggest it to anyone contemplating paddling the upper niagara.

Great Idea!! Let's find the smallest boat possible and paddle down the Niagara River. Maybe we can try and hurdle the falls. Oops too late we capsized.:(

The river and lake are only 33 degrees!

I bet they were rowing hard to gain speed to jump the Falls!
