Come on, you know that there is going to be a 5 year impact study to determine if the tolls should come down. Then it will depend on whether Bass Pro will move into the area because they will have to use the G.I. bridges to cart their stuff from Toronto.

This is an excellent idea. I drive over the bridges twice a day. I have an EZpass but it would be really nice not to have to pay a toll to get to work.

Before the corks start a-poppin, let's remember that the 190 would not be tranferred to Cinderella's fairy godmother, it would be transferred to the state of NY, which does not exactly have a sterling reputation for efficiency! So before the short attention span magic bullet mentality takes over let's think about what will happen years down the road. Will all of us be paying some creative "fee" to maintain a road all of us do not use?

This is just political rhetoric to placate the abused "toll payers." Maziarz, Hoyt and the rest of the political leeches will spin this "toll removal" program for the next 5 years--by that time the Grand Island bridge toll will be $2.50!!!

EEEK I really wish they would stop trying to have these tolls removed. The way I see it, no tolls on the bridges will encourage MORE traffice through the Island. Sure business owners here would like that, but many residents DON'T want to see more traffic through the center of our town.

This is yet another sign the town WANTS growth here, like letting Billy Fucillo ruin Alvin road. I am just sick over this. Looking like it is time to sell the homestead and get out of here!

Yes, perhaps it is time for YOU to go, Alleghany County sounds like a good fit for you. But for the rest of us over taxed Islanders who realize some growth takes the tax burden off the residents a little, this is smal, welcome relief.

Don't worry, Spitzer will just find a way to levy a user "fee" on the bridges.

I have no complaints. I use the Bridge occasionally but for those that live on the Island, I finally see FREEDOM. Freedom to come and go as you please without getting stopped or monitored everytime you leave the island and return. Freedom from being a statistic for the Transportation system and Homeland Security.
I don't think much of Mr. Hyot or the rest of WNY politicans but if he and Maziarz can pull this off, it will be the first thing that they have done that is a benefit to some of the WNY residents.

The entire NYS thruway should be handed over to be run by the state and paid for from federal funds. We already pay into these federal funds, we may as well get some of it back.

The thruway authority should be shut down completely. They have turned the roads into a business to make money off of all of us.

This is the problem with this area - people focus on the small things that hardly effect them in the long run - not the bigger issues.... People get pissed that they have to pay 75 cents to cross a bridge, but aren't nearly as pissed about the lack of jobs, or the lack of economy or whatever. You know what? If there were more jobs, and less people on welfare, and decent politicians (if they exist) in this area, there would probably be enough of a tax base to pay for the 190 on its own. That would be the right way to fix the toll issue - but no, people focus on 75 FREAKING CENTS that most people pay, what, 3, 4 times a year (I'm excluding you GI people who only pay like 17cents with ez pass and the people in the falls who work south of GI)?!? GEEZ!! Focus on something bigger!! I bet you spend $1.25 every morning at Tim Hortons on your way into work, but that doesn't bug you - the money spent to FIX A ROAD does. I'll be you all know how to make coffee - how many of you can fix a road?

I could not agree with you more. I purchased a very nice house on a large lot and I have no problem with the tolls. I want the tolls to stay

The big bad $.9 you pay each and everytime you cross the bridge having that wiped away is relief. KEEP THE TOLLS. I don't want the extra traffic that is why I moved there and everyone else that has a nice house on a large lot.
