So, what happened to the deals? As gas prices soar, the prices on the reservations don't seem that much cheaper.

You missed the point of my statement!
I said that I will no longer go out of my way to get gas at the Rez. Why would I drive the extra distance now, when it is no longer worth the savings?
The greedy gas station owners are only trying to capitalize on a severe situation. They are only cutting their own throats by charging so much for gas when they don't have to. I know that there has to be some profit made, of course. But, I honestly think that they are being greedy now and price gouging.
I'm sure that I'm not the only one who will stop going to the Rez for gas, when I can go 1 mile from my house and get gas at the same price.
All I'm saying is that the owners of these stations are going to lose most of their non-Indian business because of greed.
Where you get your gas is your choice. No one is stopping you from finding the best price. The concept of financial growth is to get the best price for your product. Supply and demand determine the rise and fall of prices. Inflation drives the cost of everything up. The gas store owners are doing what every other business owner does - they are not greedy but smart. The treaty rights do not exist to provide non-Natives with lower gas prices they exist as a form of compensation for lost land and only recently did people find a way to use it for THEIR benefit. And when you refer to gas station owners as greedy, you ARE calling Natives greedy - that is who the owners are. An additional comment to something else I read is that Barry Snyder was the first person to ask store owners to give money to the Nation. He did this before the One Stop was built, I think. So no matter if and where you buy gas on the territory, some of that money finds its way to the Nation coffers.

Is there really a reason to thank him for his comment? His comment is just as racist as the white people who make derogatory comments towards Natives for the same ignorant stereo-types...

I filled up my car with gas at the Rez Gasstop in Basom, NY - Tonawanda Reservation. My car should have only taken about 10 gals, 11 gals at the most...but instead took 13.5 gals. I believe I paid for 2-2.5 gals extra that I never got! I keep track of my mileage in between fillups and this confirmed I was shorted as well, as the mileage was way down on this tank. I lost about $8 yesterday in a huge ripoff!!

This issue with the indian reservations not having to pay taxes is getting out of hand... They are still Americans? why should they be treated any different? Everyone says that we stole their land... and therefore we owe them something. I am not saying that it was right ... but they were defeated in war. If this is the case than the irish, scottish and others have special treatement coming.
Correction... Seneca's were never defeated.

Indian
Chief,'Two Eagles,' was asked by a white government official,'You have
observed the white man for 90 years. You've seen his wars and his technological
advances. You've seen his progress, and the damage he's done.'

The
Chief nodded in agreement.

The
official continued,'Considering all these events, in your opinion, where did
the white man go wrong?'

The
Chief stared at the government official for over a minute and then calmly
replied.'When white man find land, Indians running it. No taxes, no debt,
plenty buffalo, plenty beaver, clean water; women did all the work, medicine man
free. Indian man spend all day hunting and fishing; all night having
sex.'

Then
the chief leaned back and smiled.'Only white
man
dumb enough to think he can improve system like
that.'
