Stop paying men $40,000 + benefits a year to cut the lawn. No landscape company pays people that kind of money to cut lawns, why do you?

Maybe if they LOWERED the tolls they would increase revenue! I have started to re-rout my trips to avoid the tolls since the last increase!
The same with the cigarette tax. They used to get 75 cents a pack from me. Now they get nothing!
Heaven help the Democrats and NYS to ever get it!

Its because the NYSTA employees have union contracts that require the state to pay them $40K a year plus benefits.

perhaps the mass "brain drain" of NYS to other localities in the US may be to blame... of course there is less traffic flow... Higher taxes and tolls, less traffic. I personally havent seen a toll since I crossed the Mississippi...(Bass Pro save Buffalo yet?)

This is RIDICULOUS. Plain and simple. I drive the NYS Thruway daily to reach my job where I earn a living and already pay over $500.00 in tolls per year. This state is crumbling and EVERYONE is using gas prices as an excuse to raise their prices. We already pay high enough taxes and have seen the price of CHEESE, EGGS and MILK rise because of the gas prices...when is ENOUGH ENOUGH????

I don't drive on the thruways, and this is one of the reasons. Maybe they should hire me to do this job. I don't have any politician friends and I know nothing about doing favors for anyone in the field. And I certainly wouldn't expect much compensation for saying "no more toll increases."

Guaranteed RAISES
Guaranteed PENSIONS
Guaranteed HEALTH BENNIES
Guaranteed CROOKED CONTRACTS
Guaranteed NO JAIL TIME(if caught red handed)

This state would still be in debt if they tripled EVERYTHING!

Sorry but the "SOPRANOS" are on tv,...gotta go.

Well maybe they should renegotiate that contract. Itís real easy to agree to something like that when you have no responsibility to write the checks. All you have to do is go to the toll booth and grab the money. When that runs out tell the consumer he has to pay more.

Trip and cars a fancy home...oh if only I could be that rich!! They have benefits too?? Why that's outrageous!!! On $40,000. you would think they could afford their own health care. YOU IDIOT!! Go back and read how stupid your post was.

Hmmm...all this b*tching about Union contracts. Don't you wish you had one? Then you could be rich too and make $40K a year!! Wooooo Hooooooo!!!

Can we give NYS back to the Indians? They seem to be the only one's helping out the New Yorkers. The dinners are cheaper, the smokes are cheaper, the gas is cheaper, every member of the tribes get a cut of profits and we aren't paying for tolls to drive through the reservation, yet.
Seems to me they want it back and God knows I don't want it. If NYS does die they'll have to screw it into it's grave it's got so many twists and turns in it.

people in buffalo just love to bitch about something. we finally got rid of the 190 tolls, isnt that good enough for you? oh no it will cost you 85 cents next year to get to grand island instead of 75 cents, that extra 10 cents is just going to send you into bankruptcy isnt it?

you either complain that the govt is to cheap in keeping up the roads and bridges or that they are charging drivers to much to use highways, make up your mind.

go to some other places in the country, hell in parts of flordia their are some tolls that charge as much as 1.50 - 2.00 to just drive down a few miles stretch of highway.

quit your whining, find another way or learn to swim the river to save you precious few cents.

As a tax payer and one who uses E-ZPass, I am so upset over the article I just read on the rise of tolls and E-ZPass.

Thruway tolls and E-ZPass could rise? What happened to removing the rest of the tolls like the Grand Island tolls (where did that politian go)? High fuel costs are affecting the tax payers enough, so why not make them dig deeper into their pockets to pay more tolls. Good old New York State; it's no wonder more and more people are moving out of New York State.

E-ZPass gets enough off of us on a daily basis, especially when going from Buffalo to Niagara Falls (2 tolls to pay there). An then there are those E-ZPass violations for $40 plus. Half the time one cannot even speak to a person when one calls to complain about receiving a violatioin. And forget about writing to E-ZPass, they just send a "notice of delinquency".

This is just another way of New York getting us to pay for something we shouldn't. Well, there is one way to avoid the raise in these prices...returning the E-ZPass tag and taking the long way instead of thruway. I would rather buyer more gas than pay higher tolls.

Throw "New Jack City" out of the state, burn Albany to the ground and salt the earth it stood on, and let's start over...

We removed 2 tolls - now they have to gain back revenue for money lost.

Ofcourse they're going to raise tolls - it's NEW YORK!!!!

Oh, what? Oh, it's the south calling, got to go!

If the news message is correct, Thruway tolls will be raised because higher gas prices have caused reduced traffic flow and lower revenues. I smell a bureaucratic rat. How could anybody of average intelligence not exercise veto power over such lame reasoning. Now while I have experienced unusually long delays because toll lines were backed up and because of construction, I don't see any offers of reduced tolls for inconvenience or because of the heavier than anticipated traffic.
I have a plan for leaving this state and it's because I constantly encounter this kind of thinking within the sectors of our government. That will be one sweet last toll.
