Because even if he confessed, he can plead not-guilty so it goes to trial. Then that gives his legal counsel time to try to prove him not-guilty somehow. Whether it be by insanity or self defense, etc. It's not all that confusing actually, you just don't know much about how it all works.
I don't think he ever plead not guilty, and his own lawyer said he didn't expect a not guilty. The fair trial is so there is not appeals either.

I agree about the prayers for Lori's family, but there is no "best thing" about it. He committed a horrible act, and robbed his kids and their mom. In my opinion, the best thing is that we could learn many things about this case: mental illness, taking the signs of abuse seriously and possibly about the power of forgiveness. My prayers go out to the families of Ken and Lori, and especially the kids.
I agree with all you say Just me, you are on track.

Are you serious? Maybe if only all criminals stopped committing crimes we would be getting somewhere---but to basically say that he is a "model criminal" is ridiculous. Just because he told the truth doesn't mean he did the right thing. His back was against the wall and he knew it. I can assure you that if he thought he could get away with it, he would have tried. Get a clue---this isn't said for him. He thought about doing this at least a year before he did it. He's not a victim but he created three of them, Lori and their two kids.
You don't know him, I have many people close to me that knew him and have worked along side him. He did confess on his own, he said the truth when he was on trial, he KNOWS what he did was wrong and he has excepted his punishment. I am not saying what he did was right to any degree and it is very sad to think more kids will not have a mother anymore. We are all wondering what happened to him to make him do what he did because in the past he was a decent person and I also think it is very sad that someone did not recognize what that something was going on in his head, also that he did not seek help when he was having these thoughts. I could go, but what good is that going to do anyone? What's done is done, let's all move on and quit judging people of who you know nothing about. This is a very terrible thing that happened, but the only thing that we can do is pray for all of them, and YES, even KEN.

Yep, he was worried about his children's well-being...riiiiight....what about their well-being now, daddy-o? They have lost both of their parents, thanks to your sick rationale, and now they will probably spend the rest of their lives in counseling coming to terms with what you did...hope you and that wench from Allegan that killed her ex-husband and destroyed their children's chance at a real life both rot in hell together--you make a great pair! >:(

It's so sad to think someone who was such a great person and helped out in the community has had something happen to him to make him think that this was the right thing to do. He was a great cop and he was a great dad. He never hid what he did, he took full responcibility, admitted what he did, if only all criminals would just admit they did instead of wasting weeks in court. I give him credit for confessing and not hiding, I do not agree what he did, I think it is a terrible thing. What a sad sad thing to happen, especially to her kids.
great cop!! come on! you are blind. he is a weak person! he murdered someone. What would think of him if he killed one of your own family member. he placed on the same level as anyone who has killed someone. Your just brained wash by the "cop title" they work the city. they have sh&*y job for the pay they receive. Yes they save lives and protect us, but they turn into a totally different person after a few years on the job. I have friends that are cops. They have changed. They are moody, jealous, and angery. Why? Because they deal with crap everyday. All cops need counseling.

he won't stay calm once he reaches prison. can't use the badge to his power there. once his inmate knows that he is a former cop. Mr. Officer will be sleeping with one eye open. I love it when officers use this sentence " I am a cop " and think they can use those words for power. Well good luck with those words in prison. It won't work. They don't hand out donuts either.

I agree cops should have counseling. I don't know what they go through, but I can only imagine they become desensitized (sp?) after seeing everything they see. There are many good cops, though, who want to help people, and are able to seperate what they see at work from life outside of work. I have heard from a friend of a Holland Cop that this situation has shed light on the need for counseling. Too bad it couldn't have started earlier and saved Lori, although I do believe Ken snapped.

I do know him and he may have been a good cop, but he had a lot of troubles that a lot of people new about but choose to turn a blind eye... He got what he deserved, it's his kids that are suffering...

I'm confused as to why this ever went to trial, he confessed to the police right? he confessed to his brother right? So why why why did we have to try this case? And why only second degree murder? This is a very confusing case.
It's because the Constitution allows for a trial by a jury of one's peers, you twit! Ever heard of the possibility of someone confessing to a crime to cover someone else's butt? Obviously it didn't happen here, but geeez.

I am close to the family and i agree that he did an exreamly wrong thing and i am gald that justice wil be served. But the wiered thing is, Ken must have been right about something, Since the death of lori the kids have been doing better than ever. I see them often and i see a burdin lifted of thre shoulders. Maybe the court system should be looked at about the devorce prosses. No i am not blaming the prosses, but it should be looked at. Also to those basing him, Im sorry that god love you.

How can anyone take the life of another human being and then have no remorse? I think he should have thought more clearly on this before taking this tragic action.

Maybe some people are missing the point...Lori and Ken were my friends and I never would have suspected this. My ex-husband was abusive to me also and most people who knew me didn't know he was abusive. I too filed a PPO in the past, and I think we have to ask if they do any good. It didn't help Lori in this case. I feel for her sweet children and pray for them often. I agree about what he has coming in prison...I hope it comes quick. God bless Lori's kids and family.

The problem with Ken is that he thought he could get away with murder. He just was too weak to lift his dead wife's body up to the rafters to make it appear to be a suicide!!! The comments I read from him sound like he is trying to blame his wife, and that he felt relief after she was dead. He even went to eat after!!! What a sick sociopath murderer! I hope he rots in h e l l
