Ya'll that think this a good idea are out to lunch. First of all the people voted for the raise in the minimum wage, why cause you just can't make it on 3.35 an hour. Second the sheriff department and all police department are already over taxed in there service due to the increase in crime that the economy has brought. Increased stealing because they want to feed there family let alone all the other crap they deal with. The Police officers have enough on there plate why give them anymore, likewise the firefighters they just don't sit around with there thumbs up you know where waiting for something to happen, they are your insurance policy to keep you safe in your time of emergency. Both the firefighters and police are highly educated and well train in the professions but each one has a specific job to do. Look at it this way you don't call a plumber to do electrical work you call an electrician, why because he is more educated in that specific field. Answer this how much hose and water and all the tools can you fit into a police car? If you think it's a good idea then go to the fire station and ride along and find out what they do and then do the same with a police officer and it will become very obvious that they are two different jobs that not everyone can do. If it works in Michigan that's great but I think you would be suprised to find out it isn't that great and it has it's draw backs. Lets leave it there and keep ourselves totally safe.
OMG someone on this who actually thinks. Great job stand up for what you believe in and dont believe some of this smear media propaganda our governments are corrupt they dont know how to handle thier cities. Its like running a company and they have no clue and are running them into the ground.

How about a County wide school system?? It would save a s whole bunch of money by eliminating duplicative Administrators jobs and force the whole county to address the issue of school funding!!

Excellent idea, same with cafeteria food have it cooked in one location than just reheated at each of the schools. Busses would still need to be local to save on fuel. But administration if you have it all in a central location save on tons of money. I hate to admit this but do schools really need sports? gym is one thing to keep physical activity but some schools litteraly pour the money into their sports progams while other progams get cut makes you wonder where their morals really are. Lay off teachers or give more money for new uniforms and maybe even a new football stadium.

they have no clue any more on how to budget makes you wonder why every town and city around here had fruitful spending including our schools now they want to increase taxes raise fees it is just like when minimum wage went up.
if you think about it the recession started when minimum wage increased. Businesses have a certain margin goal and if their costs go up such as paying their employees more sell prices must also rise to maintain the same profit it is one huge loop than prices went up those who were at minimum wage thought it was an increase but now they still have to pay more for goods so their increase was meaningless. Now people were cutting back spending less and look at what happens. way to go government no i am not blaming obama or bush this is everyone who we have elected right down to our local congress and senate. We vote these people into office well I strongly believe it is time for change. Change for the better not change to make a quick buck. Does everyone in office need to make 6 figures? do ceos of banks and corporations need to make millions? The answer is No and if you believe the same as I do please respond to this message. I think it is time for Ohio to stand up and unit write letters to your congressmen and senator tell them you are tired of this and need a change. Perhaps I should be runnnig for office but thanks to all of these higher taxes i wouldnt even have the funds to advertise on dispatch.
I have no idea how this turned into one long run-on illiterate sentence about minimum wage and writing to senators. Off topic much?

Who the heck cares about punctuation on these forums? This wasnt off topic this had to do with fruitful spending and this is why they are talking about a merger. This is about the city running out of money because it's spend spend spend.

I agree with what someone else had posted. The city can save money with the schools if they consolidate the districts administration offices into 1. Here is another way to save. Allow volunteer fire fighters back. Many towns are doing this now both paid and volunteers.

I have to wonder what the city manager is thinking? Maybe be we should cross train the mayor and the city manager! I find it hard to believe we need all the budget cuts (no more firemen or police). We seem to have the money to hire a city developer, buy the old Delaware Hotel, and pay for a study. I believe we all need to start attending the city council meetings and find out exactly how our tax payer dollars are being spent. Maybe we should think twice to who we are electing.

No one said anything about no more police or fire!! And allow volunteers back?? Come on your beloved firefighters fought like crazy to keep the city from hiring any part time firefighters. Wake up Delaware you are being drained by your fire department

Because of budget cuts they are not hiring. The past 2 studies said we needed at least four more stations and more manpower. I'm sorry I just don't see them. They still find it necessary to hire a developement director that we have done quite well without. A friend of a friend to make matters worse.

Right now, Delaware has an ISO rating of 4 or 5. This number represents how effective the fire department is, and fire insurance premiums are based on this ISO rating - ask any insurance agent.

Should you do much more cutting of the fire dept, this number will rise to possibly a 5 or 6. If that happens, your insurance premiums will rise accordingly.

This ISO rating is based on the water supply, fire equipment, personnel on duty, dispatching (911). The best possible rating is a Class 1 (Miami, FL or LosAngeles, CA). The worst rating is a class 10 - no fire protection.

Has the fire dept done a good job?- Not bad, Has city hall done a good job? They last time a fire and ems levy was passed (ie higher income taxes), the bean counters in city hall removed from the fire dept what the increased funding would be from increased revenues.- net result - NOTHING! So again, has city hall done a good job?_ NO!!

*please excuse my poor grammar, trying to get the message out - have a nice day!

You could always have the County handle the EMS and that will leave the city with more avaiable firefighters to do the firefighting and everything else that they train for. And having the firefighters ready and available instead of having them out running EMS call you coud then cut back on the "calling in" manpower and paying them time and a half thus reducing the budget and saving money!

Since everyone in the City and County pays the tax, the city should get reimbursed for the runs in the city and the county should be paid for the runs in the county. Liberty, Orange, Concord, etc...townships should be paid respectfully. I personally want the closest, most capable person responding if I needed help. I do not want to wait 30-45 minutes for the county to respond if my loved one was dying or hurt. If they had the man power in the city they would not have to pay the overtime. If you are in a car accident who would you want to come first? Delaware does need to cut costs but should not put its citizens in danger. Our police and fire depts. should be a priority. Wasteful spending not so much.

Dont forget that since its a sales tax everyone helps support the service even those who do not reside in Delaware County. Polaris is a wonderful thing that we do not have to service but the County receives monies from. Unlike income tax or property tax which effects a small percent and a service is provided to all on your back. If you are a property owner in Delaware should a apartment dweller get the same say in how your property taxes are spent??
As for your mentioning of Orange and Concord etc townships EMS was already inplace when they decided that they WANTED to start doing it. EMS is a way for the fire service to justfy themselves and the huge sums of funds that they use up!
No where in Delaware County is anyone 30-45 minutes away from help! Dont know where you came up with that one but you really need to check your facts before you spread your nonsense.
As for who would I want to come to my aid? I would want those that wanted to be there not those that feel that they have to be in order to justify themselves. So my answer would be the Countys people.
