Hmmm. shortage of precipitation during winter with higher then average temps that made sure what little snow we DID get didnt stay around.

Shortage of precipitation during summer with consistent weeks of high temps then we usually have and I havnt mowed in FOUR weeks.

Extreme weather (record drought then intense rain in some areas, with high wind storms thrown in for good measure) in ALL points of the US.

Ok. sure.
It could be a fluke year. It happens.
However, if next season is like this, but kicked up a few notches, and the next seasons after just keep topping themselves -- then YES, we might have a serious problem here.

Not sure how long you've been in Michigan, Strong Woman, but back in the 80's we went through such a drought and hot spell the Grand River dried right up and people were walking across it. The Grand is down from 7' to 4' at this point, Sure hope we don't get to the walking stage again!

Going back further, this is nothing compared to the heat waves, droughts and 'dust bowl' the US experienced in the 30's. In the past 40 years alone, this is not the worst we've seen.
The media just needs a drum to beat, folks...do a little research on your own before you buy the 'worst drought in a 100 years' headline.

I pay little attention to the media anymore, free thinker. All I know is it's dry and hot and has been for weeks - and a-holes continue to light off fireworks in their backyards!

Yes, it will continue getting hotter every year until we lose our atmosphere and become like the planet Mars. We are all going to die.

Natural selection is working quicker than global warming on those folks!

Hopefully the house those fools burn down will be their own and not somebody else's. Seems the people in my neighborhood have finally gotten a clue...I haven't heard any for at least a week now. Of course, we needed to have a few grass fires before they figured it out....
Seriously...if the media is this hysterical over some hot, dry weather (which isn't even close to as bad as it's been in the past), I'm not looking forward to what we'll see as December 2012 approaches.

That we're all going to die has never been in question. We are all going to die at some point. The question becomes: when and by what means?

It was worse one year in the late 80's for certain - and not as many homes had central air! But I'm cutting folks some slack about hyping up the heat - whether it was worse back then or not, it's still f'ing hot!!
Right now people have suffered through over four years of basically a serious recession. It's hard enough to keep things profitable and balance a budget without throwing in the effects of a drought and 2 weeks of 90+ weather. We're just not in the kind of financial shape to fight an inept government with a spending problem, a devastated economy, a terrible housing market AND a miserable heatwave with all of the expense and damage that causes.

As for December's rage-fest, I'd rather have them crying about global warming than banging the racism drum.

The drought is not over yet, but does have a start now. Hopefully we will continue to get rain and catch up on the rainfasll.
