are you people kidding me? i truly believe sheriff zerangue has served his duty as a good sheriff in the past but now that he has to pass the torch down to his so called "experienced chief", trust me this is not a good thing for st landry parish. If we thought racism and the crime rate was bad in opelousas now, be prepared for it to be even worst. The only thing this woman is worried about is how many people of her own race she can get to swing her way while she puts others down and needs control. Bobby Guidroz in my opinion is the best man for the job. Trustworthy family man with much more experience in law enforcement. He cares about the people of our parish and about making it a better place. Please think twice before making your decision come election time in 2007.

Glad to see Sheriff Zerangue retiring. We need law enforcement not just social programs...I could not stop laughing when I saw what zerangue said about Laura Baltahzar..."she has risen through the ranks of the department and can do the job". Excuse me, she was a radio dispatcher, dispatcher supervisor, asst. jail warden and then when her predecessor when to Federal Prison for bribery, she was ordained Chief Deputy!!!! I wonder how much police experience she has such as; patrolling, investigating criminal activity, report writing, accident investigation....etc. etc.....I know she certainly can supervise all of the above different law enforcement functions why with all that law enforcement experience she has......Oh, I almost forgot this part, she said when asked if she had gone to any supervisory schools or any police academy, her response was, " I am grandfathered in, and I don't have to go to any police training". BY FAR....THE CANDIDATE TO SUPPORT FOR SHERIFF IN ST. LANDRY PARISH IS THE RETIRED TROOPER FROM PORT BARRE....BOBBY GUIDROZ !

Sheriff Howard Zeringue's announced support of his Chief Deputy as a candidate for election once he retires is not unusual. It is only fitting that he pledge his loyalty to her candidacy due to the loyalty and devotion for the performance of her duties as his appointed Chief Deputy. A good leader should praise his employees for a job well done as Howard has done. My contacts for services from the Sheriff's office were always handled professionally by the Chief Deputy and I will always be thankful for her help.

However, St. Landry Parish will be faced with making a decision on a candidate they want to next serve as Sheriff of its Parish. Hopefully, there will emerge a candidate, including the Chief Deputy, who will present the needed qualifications for taking the Sheriff's Office to the next professional level while leading it beyond the status quo. The next level in anything is more than one element of performance. It is developing the big picture for organizational efficiency.

To move the Sheriff's Office to the next level, the candidate elected by the people will require personal commitment to setting goals that can be measured for progress, evaluating operational situations in order to provide for managerial accountability, properly equipping self and employees with the training, tools and supplies for getting the job done, endure inconvenience while working to improve operations, continue to reevaluate performance by self and employees, evacuate personal and employee comfort zones, stick with strategy plans and continue to set new viable goals to keep moving the Sheriff's Office forward.

The St. Martin Parish citizens elected a new Sheriff in 2003 to serve as their change agent for moving its Sheriff's Office to the next level and beyond the status quo. He applied the above criteria in his quest for bringing about the needed changes. For an observation of what he and his staff have accomplished thus far, I encourage those of you who have personal computers to visit the St.Martin Sheriff's Web Site at ( www.stmartinsheriff.org )I remain ever so grateful to the citizens and the Sheriff of St. Martin Parish for allowing me to serve as their interim Chief Deputy while assisting their Sheriff with the necessary administrative and organizational restructuring work that was required to bring about the change requested from the parish citizens.

Hopefully, the candidate elected as our next St.Landry Parish Sheriff will afford me the same opportunity to assist towards such an endeavor.

I stand corrected on my previous comments about Laura Baltahzar's predecessor....HE WAS NOT SENT TO PRISON FOR BRIBERY AS MY COMMENTS REFLECTED, I WAS MIS-INFORMED. HE WAS SENTENCED AND SERVED HOUSE ARREST FOR 'WITNESS TAMPERING'......SORRY FOR THE WRONG INFO. LET US KEEP THE INFORMATION CORRECT....

jjj I agree with you. I have printed and made copies to pass around. My family and friends have been calling all morning wanting to meet our new sheriff to be. We have all been waiting for a great leader for St. Landry parish and now its only a matter of time. So many people who work for the sheriffs office are already supporters of Bobby Guidroz and looks like there will be plenty more to come. Congratulations to you Bobby Guidroz!

I would be proud to be a part of a parish with such good leadership as what I've read from the profile of Lt. Bobby Guidroz. His profile amazes me. He seems to be a man of integrity resulting from years of hard work. Certification and education presents itself through his website. I recommend the public to read this. Good luck in 2007!

This is a letter that I wrote to the editor of Daily World. They didn't bother to publish in the newspaper so here it is!

The Daily World published a list of individuals who wrote in to support Laura Balthazar as Sheriff Howard Zerangueís successor. The majority of the people who wrote in favored Ms. Balthazar. However, it seems to me that Ms. Balthazar is playing games. Five of the people who wrote in are detectives with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff Department. Thatís not to mention the other people, most of whom are also employees or people that Laura Balthazar intimidated enough to write in. From what I can see, God forbid an SLPSD employee endorse Bobby Guidroz for Sheriff. He/She can wait to be reprimanded harshly. Honestly, who would publicly deny supporting his own employer or the hand that feeds you. You just as well get a shovel and starting digging a hole for yourself. However, no one will be in that voting booth with you when itís time to vote.

If the Daily World would like to write an unbiased account regarding the forthcoming election, then have reporters venture out across the parish and see how many people support Laura Balthazar. I think Ms. Balthazar would be quieted a bit and not so bold as to play these games with the press and conducting personal political polls within the St. Landry Parish Sheriff Department and their families. She doesnít give the people in St. Landry Parish very much credit in seeing through the deception she so early on is setting forth. People will see through you, Ms. Balthazar. There are enough dirty politics around, the people of St. Landry Parish donít need anymore. Desperate people take desperate measures.

****If St. Landry Parish wants an honest, reliable sheriff with the highest morals possible, then the people need to vote for Bobby Guidroz. Heís a family man who despises dirty politics. He doesnít need them. Heíll win on his own merit and experience. He is a former deputy commander of patrol for the Louisiana State Police, former deputy commander of investigations with hundreds of hours of on-the-job investigative experience, a graduate of the FBI National Academy and has been in law inforcement all of his adult life. He will shine above and beyond Laura Balthazarís dirty politics. Heíll win honestly and justly.

Just drive around the parish and you will see, for yourself, the supporters of Bobby Guidroz. You canít miss all of the vehicle stickers supporting him. Most importantly, the people of St. Landry Parish need to voice their support for Bobby Guidroz. Write to the Daily World in support of him. But, most importantly, you must VOTE! If you or someone you know is not registered to vote, then go to the Registar of Voters office and register. When the time comes, the majority vote will have the last word.

****I read with great interest, one of the supporters wrote that Bobby Gidroz would "wipe the department clean" ??? Letís hope that when he does become sheriff he does "wipe the department clean" and institute people who favor professionalism and who possess the appropriate qualifications for the position he/she holds.

i AGREE 100 % IN WHAT YOU JUST SAID THE DAILY WORLD NEEDS TO GET OUT IN THE PARISH AND SEE JUST HOW MANY STICKER FOR BOBBY GUIDROZ ARE OUT THERE. THE OTHER DAY I WAS IN LAFAYETTE WITH MY DAUGHTER AND GRAND KIDS I WAS SURPRISED AT THE BOBBY GUIDROZ STICKERS I SAW IN LAFAYETTE PARISH. JUST RIDE AROUND ST LANDRY AND SEE HOW MANY YOU SEE I KNOW MY FAMILY HAS THEM ON THERE VEHILCES. PEOPLE ARE TIRED OF THE STUFF THE CURRANT ADDMINSTRATION IS DOING. YES HOWARD DID A GOOD JOB FOR HIS TIME. BUT NOW IT'S TIME FOR A MAN WHO CARES ABOUT THE PEOPLE AND THE EMPLOYEES OF THE SHERIFF OFFICE. WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO GO TO WORK AND GO HOME AFTER A DAYS WORK AND FEEL GOOD ABOUT IT.BE WITH OUR FAMILYS AND HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT WHO IS TRYING TO GET US FIRED. FINALLY HAVE A LIFE. HAVE TO SAY IT MR BOBBY MY FAMILY SUPPORTS AND LOVES YOU SEE IN OFFICE IN 2007.

Why does it always have to come down to race, this is not a black & white issue it's about who's more capable of performing the job in the same manner as our current sheriff and apparently he must feel that she is beyond capable or he wouldn't be behind her 100 percent. If you don't care for the woman that's one thing but don't turn this into something it's not. I have nothing but the up most respect for Sheriff Zerangue and I totally support his dicision.

Opelousas, open your eyes honey you dont know what your talking about!!! I have had personal experience with that woman,And you know what I am the same race as she is and I have heard her make racial remarks. At this point anyone who works for SLSO has no freedom of speech you do as your told or you are out. St Landry parish needs to wake up and just vote for the man who will be our next SHERIFF which is BOBBY GUIDROZ. Our existing sheriff is from the old school and needs to get out so we can have a man who will take care of the citizens of our parish..Opelousas, just ask around and you may find out that there are skeletons in her closet.
