Plantations, Prisons and Profits
“Louisiana is the world’s prison capital. The state imprisons more of its people, per head, than any of its U.S. counterparts. First among Americans means first in the world. Louisiana’s incarceration rate is nearly triple Iran’s, seven times China’s and 10 times Germany’s.”
DO YOU STILL WANT to turn Public interest (healthcare, Medicare and Education) over to "For Profit". This is such an embarassment. No wonder businesses do NOT want to locate here. All this time we were told it was the tax rate or lack of skilled labor. WE CAN DO BETTER. WE SHOULD HAVE REPLACED BOBBY JINDAL - he has NO CLUE. WE need someone who will look out for the best interest of the state.

I would not believe anything written from New York. Did they learn anything from 911? NO!
People who are in prison were not put there for doing good.

You must not have read the article. This may affect you personally, or someone close to you, one day.
There is a group in Baton Rouge who is trying to change the laws for non-violent criminals; no prison time. They are NOT reformed there, cost taxpayers and are not able to work and pay restitution. Harder for them to find jobs when they get out of jail so do more crimes and return to prison. Guess who picks up the tab???? Bobby Jindal made it sound like it would be cheaper in the long run. As long a they keep opening up these jails and keeping non-violent people away from work-viable training; we have a broken system.
Violent crimes, robbers, drug dealers, murders... should definately go to prison - no rehab training. Teach them to do work to maintain prisons, cook and grow food for the prison.
Others should be placed in halfway houses or place monitoring ankle braclets (take away their freedom) and taken to work everyday - pay the cost to live in halfway house/braclet and monitoring so they can pay restitution.
Isn't it time to give the taxpayers of LA a tax break and take LA off of the top of every freaking negative list?

Send them to do the jobs that Americans won't do! Sounds like this would be best for the country all around, and no need for migrants, eh?

@ Cajun Nation - you are correct. Then child support payments will be made and LA Taxpayers will save on Welfare too!
Why can't the Legislature think of ways to save LA taxpayers money and put us at the bottom of the negative charts for once. I would love to see LA at the top of POSITIVE charts on a regular basis.
I guess what they say about the devil and money is true.
Is there a way to find out on a daily basis how the reps are voting for bills in Baton Rouge? Would love to start following this. More people should. Seems like the Gov. and reps need to be babysat.

Lake Erie Correctional Institution, Ohio Private Prison, Faces Concerns About 'Unacceptable' Conditions
Seems like when For Profit takes over, the state has to regulate and provide police efforts more.
Is it really a savings?
I say, send Federal/State Prisons (prisoners from in and out of Washington DC) to Mexico. With Skype, lawyers and family members could visit on a regular basis without hardship to the family finances. It would provide jobs to the Mexicans; solution to illegal immigration (win/win).
This would be a definite motivation to stay clean and lawful.
That kind of outsourcing I could stand behind. How about you?

Bobby Jindal says, "stop being the stupid party". Didn't you get the memo?
