Good Jobs

Read an article about the Company that purchased Shaw Industries. Said they would expand by creating about 400 new good paying jobs. Then I read further and it stated that most of these jobs would be filled by people coming from Texas.

I am curious about how many jobs were lost in the last 5 years vs. how many new good jobs were created.

And of these new jobs, how many went to LA citizens?

Unless LA focuses on affordable healthcare and education, we are DOOMED!!! No one wants to hire sick uneducated people! FACT

How many good industries will come to a state known for gun violence with lax gun laws and a 'FOR PROFIT' prison system? Would you want to live in that environment? Most people DON'T want it in their neighborhood. Is this the future you want for your kids?

I wonder how the Legislature/Corporate group 'ALEC' fits into what is going on here in Louisiana? Jindal received an award from this group and I read where Vitter is also closely associated. ALEC seems to benefit Corporate America; not the average Louisiana citizen. Should you question this alliance?

What are you waiting for?

Botanical Society Panel Derides Creationism, Louisiana Science Education Act

Among the many topics covered at this week's Botanical Society of America Conference in New Orleans was the Louisiana Science Education Act, a law that critics say allows for the teaching of creationism in public schools.

Zack Kopplin, a rising junior at Rice University, led a session on the LSEA as part of a symposium titled "Yes, Bobby, evolution is real!" The 20-year-old political activist is a leader of the campaign to repeal LSEA.

During the symposium, Kopplin and speakers blasted the law, suggesting that it has made Louisiana an "international laughingstock," according to The Times-Picayune.

Is he for real? Isn't the current Repub Gov of Virginia being investigated(possible criminal) for receiving gifts (he and his wife seems to have gotten way too greedy)?

What about D. Issa?
What about D. Vitter?

La. governor demands feds drop suit against state

Again how is taking kids out of Public Schools and sending them to FOR PROFIT schools going to change things in a meaningful way?

If you take kids out of all those "failing schools", what will happen to all those "bad" teachers and bldgs.? My guess, the FOR PROFIT will hire back these teachers at a lower rate of pay and less benefits and buy the bldgs. at a cut rate.

Again, how would that make things better?

Off the top of my head, why not focus on the "failing schools" and fix them. If the ones in charge can't, then they need to LEAVE and make room for someone who can!

It doesn't make sense to put another layer of profits in the education system. Taxpayers have been taxed enough!

How For-Profit Colleges Stay In Business Despite Terrible Track Record

Very interesting read.

Don't think that this will not affect you. It is the NEXT bill black hole in the US economy. At some point it will probably affect your car loan, your mortgage and even your CC interest rates; not to mention your income tax rate. They are all connected in a real way!

How can we turn our Public School System over to FOR PROFIT when this kind of thing is happening on the college level?

Again, if the ones in charge of running the school systems CANNOT or WILLNOT come up with a way to fix the 'failing' schools, throw them out and get good people who can. It is NOT about their career, it is about the kids!!!

Jindal slams voucher lawsuit in new TV ad

Why use a TV ad?

We need to fix the "failing schools", not turn the system over to FOR PROFIT!! Get rid of the losers who cannot fix the issue other than turning it over to FOR PROFIT (career move)! Taxpayers will NOT beable to afford the bill at the end of the day, will they?

IT is about the kids, not Jindal's career plans.

Again, how is sending a small % of kids to private school (for profit) going to change anything meaningful? Oh yes, this is how you open the door to corporate GREED is done. How are the FOR PROFIT Colleges doing? Don't think you want to go that way, do you?

How many of you went wild when you thought 'For Profit Reform Schools were going up in your neighborhoods"?

Audit: DHH paid $1.9M for Medicaid for dead people

Louisiana paid nearly $1.9 million last year through the state's privatized Medicaid programs for 1,727 people who were not receiving services because they had died, according to an audit released Monday.

Legislative Auditor Daryl Purpera's office looked at fees that the state Department of Health and Hospitals paid in the 2012-13 budget year for privatized Medicaid medical and behavioral health services.

Purpera's office compared payments DHH made to the Medicaid program managers to lists of the deceased obtained through another DHH office, the vital records office.

Gov. Jindal: We Won't Allow President Obama to Bully La. into Expanding Obamacare

Wasn't B. Jindal hired by the Foster Admin. to fix healthcare in LA years ago?

His fix: turn charity hospitals over to FOR PROFIT. I heard they will get Fed. Medicaid money.

Shouldn't someone audit this arrangement? We don't want LA caught up in funny accounting practices again. We CANNOT afford the legal fees nor the fines.

Why is it OK for the For Profit hospital corporations to get Fed Medicaid money, but not expand Medicaid through Obamacare to cover all those people?

Am I missing something?

Shouldn't the Jindal Admin. explain this arrangement in clear terms.

Friday afternoon Jindal fired off a response:

"We will not allow President Obama to bully Louisiana into accepting an expansion of Obamacare," he said. "We have rejected Obamacare’s Medicaid expansion in Louisiana because it would cost Louisiana taxpayers up to $1.7 billion over the next ten years and move nearly 250,000 Louisianians from private coverage to Medicaid.

“The disastrous rollout of Obamacare is a case in point that we don’t need top-down, one-size-fits-all federal mandates, and instead should continue to focus on health care solutions that make sense for Louisiana.

“Obamacare needs to be repealed. The dysfunction of the website and the President’s broken promises on being able to keep your health plan are just the tip of the iceberg in regards to the problems with this law.”

Smart man, our Governer. He knows damn well our country (much less La.) cannot afford this debacle!

There is a question about how the private hospital deal was done because it doesn't appear cheaper/more efficient to have FOR PROFIT run them - see Kennedy's article in Daily Advertiser. I agree with him, it should be audited NOW so the creative accounting practices can be tested!

If I am understanding this correctly, turning the charity system over to For Profit allowed private corporations to get their hands on Fed Medicaid money. This worries me.

Why not sign LA up for expansion of Medicaid to cover all those people?

Businesses want to expand in states with a healthy educated pool of employees.

Jindal's fixes (or how he broke the system):
1. Turn education over to For Profit (my guess to do away benefits that draw good teachers in)
2. Cut higher education budget at every turn
3. Turn healthcare over to For Profit and NOT expand Medicaid

Again, how is adding more layers of Profit (that does NOT stay in this state) make Public education and healthcare more affordable and better! How can the LA Legislature just stand by and let this happen. What are they doing?????

I can't help but think that Jindal is working for the corporations he hopes to get HUGE campaign contributions from for his 2016 run (think ALEC and Koch Bros). Am I wrong?

You people keep saying you don't want Gov't telling you what to do, so why are you allowing Corporate America to take over?

DOJ is looking into the voucher program.

If Jindal has NOTHING to hide, why put out those silly commercials? It should have be a slam dunk.

The privatization of the charity systems needs an audit, NOW.

If Jindal has NOTHING to hide, why claim Obama is bullying him about Medicaid? Why allow the private hospital system to go after Fed Medicaid money?

These are the questions that should be asked?

Or, are you afraid of the truth?
