If suboxone is such a miracle drug that does not offer a high or is not addictive, why is it I just read on the news that pharmacy will no longer be able to dispense it in pill form that it will now be available in only in sublingual strips? This is in response to the recent drugs laws that are being introduced to fight substance abuse. I guess we won't be able to call you pill heads anymore how about strip heads?
Strips can only be abused if someone goes to the extreme and melts it down into a liquid, and bangs it through a needle. Most people are afraid of needles, so there is a lesser chance of abuse if the drug is only available in strip form.

I personally don't do any kind of drug unless my doctor prescribes it to me, and for a REAL reason. But fit this who are addicted, they can use these drugs to avoid withdrawl, leaving their families to go to rehab, or even going to jail.

I just wanted to let you all know that you can go through withdrawal from pills with another type of pill that is an alpha blocker it is called clonidine. It is non narcotic and is non addictive. They give you a patch that is good for 3-7 days. It will take the creepy crawlers away and let you get some sleep. It just makes you somewhat tired. (That could be from not having the pain pills also, I don't know. But this is alot easier than doing it cold turkey with nothing. Suboxone and subutex are just other ways to get high. You can quit this way and stay somewhat sain. Good luck to whoever.

in my opinion they need to take suboxone, subutex, and methadone off the market. If you want to quit bad enough you will find a way, u just have to have will power. It sucks no doubt. But life goes on. Just don't be scared like i was. It is possible and not as bad as what u think. And to all the folks who think people who get hooked on these doctor prescribed pills are bad people, you are wrong. It can happen to anybody.

Anyone can be come an addict. Just takes one
operation or bad accident or grow old and get
sick. The U.S. people are ignorant that medications
and alcohol can cause brain receptors to be
broken. They need a year and a half to begin
healing after abstaining begins. The U.S. is full of bullies who hate addicts. Hollywood promotes it...then mocks rejects the victims. Addicts are sick
people who are denied the medications needed to
get well. That's the crime.

No, cousin who, the crime is the wrongly assumed belief that people can get clean from substituting one addiction (I.e. opiates) for another addiction (I.e. methadone, suboxone, subutex etc.). Hard working people are fed up with people who doctor shop or clog the emergency rooms claiming to have a migraine. It is those people who make the hard working decent people who need TEMPORARY pain relief feel like a criminal when they go and see there medical provider and get the third degree. The only true rehab is to get off of it. True its not easy but what in life truly is?

As a medicinal biochemist who works in pharmaceutical research, AND a former junkie, I can assure you two things:

1. Buprenorphine (Subutex), will not get an adict high. It may get someone high who has never used it before; however, a euphoric high will only last for the first few days of treatment at max. The purpose of the drug is to block other opiates from opiate Receptor (OR) sites, by having a higher affinity fo the substrate. While on subutex, it is MORE difficult to get high because of this interaction. Subutex simply maintains a balance of euphoria to allow the patient to function without being sick or high.

2. YES, it IS habbit forming; however, this abuse potential is significantly less than that of nearly ALL other opiates, and far less than methadone (which is worse).

In short, burprenorphine simply puts detox on HOLD while an individual gets the rest of their life back on track. It can later being reduced during detox when & if the patient becomes ready for such a day.

So true Beavis, so true. Chemist you have just affirmed everything I have been saying. It is addicitive and of is substitution therapy NOT rehabilitation. As long as a drug/subutex clinic is getting money do you think they will come off it???????

. You know hou shouldn't talk bad about something you dont understand!! That's a horrible thing to say!!! You don't know what addicts go through and you have no right to judge someone for having a disease. That's like saying to smack someone who has cancer. A lot of addicts are born with the disease passed through genes. It a horrible and painful disease and for many there is no cure. So instead of smacking one in the face you should learn to show a little compassion because we are hurting and suffering more than you could imagine. I've been clean for a few years and I struggle everyday. You should really think before you speak!!!

If you are a pillhead that finally admits they f'ed up, I applaud you and wish you the best. Too many pillheads in this area refuse to admit they are messed up.

To all the recovering addicts who are clean and struggle with the thought of addiction daily, I applaud you and wish you all the very best. To the rest of you who contine to believe that methadone or suboxone is a legitimate therapy I urge you to reconsider that thought. As long as that misconception continues our society will continue to be hobbled by drug addicts who will do anything for their next fix.
