West Bend Mutual has accepted premiums from me personally as well as my company. I have been a faithful customer for years using them for home, car, and business. I now have a substantial claim and they are trying to create a loophole to wiggle out of properly paying the claim.

They are a bit weak on claims and service!

INTERESTING THAT YOU FEEL THAT WAY ABOUT WEST BEND MUTUAL. I USE THEM AND HAVE HAD FRUSTRATING EXPERIENCES WITH CLAIMS AS WELL, WHAT DID THEY DO TO YOU? WHAT WAS THE LOOPHOLE?

this is typical of most insurance companies, even the big ones. You can pay a premium for years and then have one claim and they will be horrible to you and very frustrating to work with. You almost think, "what's the point of having it?" but you need some kind of coverage. Insurance is the biggest rip-off you'll ever need.

My sister has been with American Family for almost 20 years and had an auto accident, completely not her fault. They've been very difficult to deal with, horrible CS, won't do any leg-work for her. They insisted on having the car, which everyone at the scene said was totalled, towed by their agent to their claim center. When she got no response as to the amount of damages or the estimate of value she went to the towing company's website that was on the paperwork. Guess what? She found it up for auction with a picture taken from the side without the damage. She called and they of course denied, a few days later it was taken off the website.

Finally, after over a month, they determined that the car will be totalled.

An update on my claim, 38 months have gone by and West Bend Mutual Insurance has still not settled my claim. They are masterful at dragging their feet through the court system. It is my opinion that they just want to wait it out for as long as they possibly can.

I'm not surprised. I worked at West Bend Mutual I often worked 60 - 70 hours. I even worked 24 hours straight. Keep on top of them. I hope for your sake it's the people are busy, tired and crabby. Keep in mind they are folks like you and the company overworks them. Anyone who has problems with an insurance company should complain to A.M. Best. This is the company who gives the insurance companies their ratings. When their ratings drop the big guys will get concerned.

Thanks for the advise. I will complain to AM Best. I know the only thing these companies are concerned with is their ratings, and holding on to cash. BTW it is now 46 months and counting. I think they are criminal in their handling of this.

We bought a cottage with the intend of living in it until we built a new house on the same property and then take down the cottage. We insured both the cottage and the new construction with west bend insurance. Just before we started to build, a storm dropped 4 trees on the cottage. The "senior adjuster" was there that night, couldn't have been nicer ... then he discovered the plan for the new house.

First, he refused to pay us anything, saying we were building a new house and we were tearing down the cottage anyway. In time we did settle, but only after we had to threaten to hire a lawyer. The settlement was more an agreed figure then anything to do with the cost of repair to the cottage.

Needless to say we dropped west bend insurance and it's "Agent". We used "Consumer Report" and "JDPowers" to find the insurer we use today. We would rather pay a little more up front and have good service in times of needs, than to pay a kmart blue light price and get west bend insurance services!

West Bend handles workers comp claims as well, I was injured at work and my carrer ended because of the injury, you should see the bull they put you through, even with an attorney. They take the money they steal from us and make sure the laws are always in ther favor. The only way to make them play by the rules is to change the way the laws are being written. We are on the brink of loosing everything that I have worked for in 20 years and they keep trying to steal more and more. If everybody that has a legitimate claim will badger them over and over every time they try crap like that, never letting up on them, maybe if we keep them so busy on that end they will see its costing them more money to fight you out of what is rightfully yours

We have dealt with West Bend Mutual for many years and they have never faltered in any sector - claims, billing, policy service, etc. They are an amazing insurance company with a very knowledgable team of professionals working for them. We had a claim with them and it was settled very promptly and fair. What a lot of people don't understand is that a claim takes some work on the part of the insured. Most insured's have the mind set that everything is owed to them because they paid a premium to the company - CHANGE YOUR MINDSET. You have to work together with your adjuster and the company - Quit complaining and start talking to your claims adjuster or claim supervisor or your agent to see what YOU can do to help settle the claim faster. The other important topic is knowing what you are buying, many consumers feel inferior to their insurance agent because they don't fully understand insurance - ASK QUESTIONS and you will learn. When you don't ask questions and don't fully understand your insurance plan, then don't complain when you have a claim that falls within a 'loop hole'- that is YOUR fault and no one elses. Never assume something is automatically covered - ask questions!! There is an abundance of good agents out there and a good agent encourages you to ask questions and enjoys educating you on the plan you have purchased. The uneducated assessments of a great insurance carrier in the marketplace is really unfortunate - I honestly have a hard time believing most of the comments made. Maybe they are from people competing with West Bend Mutal.

WBM is my insurance co for my business. We filed a claim for items damaged & lost income (2 month shut down)in early October and everything was going well. After a month they "forgot" to send a reimbursement check in the amount of $3000.00 for items damaged. Since it was thanksgiving weekend It could not be sent until the following Monday. I had to wait 3 weeks from the time I sent the paid invoice to get reimbursed.(note: at this point business is still closed = NO INCOME)I should have been covered for $50,000 lost income(purchased additional coverage) but for some reason they say I'm only covered for $25,000. My lost income (averaged for time frame over the prev. 2 years) is actually $56,000.00. Monday December 12th I received an email stating they were having an independent accounting firm review my lost income.(I agree, they should review it) Tuesday Dec 13th a check arrived for $25,000.00. I deposited it and started writing checks for repair work done & replacement of damaged items. Friday Dec 16th I received an e,ail from my bank stating that the check from WBM was "returned" unpaid. I am now $21,000.00 in the hole in my bank account due to checks written & fess charged by my bank & the banks of others, cc companies, etc. When I called my adjuster at WBM he knew it was going to be returned. I asked him to provide me with the email or recorded phone conversation in which he informed me of that, but he could not. His only statement was that he "apologizes, he just assumed I would know that if an accounting firm was reviewing my lost income I should not deposit the check" It is a week before Christmas, I have no money, I cannot take a pay check form my business because it will bounce, I cannot pay my employees, nor give Christmas bonuses. I tried to apply for a personal loan at 29.99% interest to cover the negative balance but cannot get it.(Like everyone I also have a mortgage, a car payment , etc. & it is an unsecured loan)
WBM has really put me in a terrible position, I deal in used items so I rely on being able to purchases items for resale from the public, but when word gets out that I write bad checks it will be damaging to our reputation. I am actually in a horrible state of mind about all this and I don't know what I can do about it. It is very frustrating.

my house was vandalized and robbed over six months ago. westbend has not payed a copper cent.. i have been paying them for six years. they finally got tired of me hounding them and turned my "case" over to a lawyer.. so i offcourse got my own lawyer.. i'm assuming this will take months and months more to go through the legal system. i will not stop until they pay me my just due.. i will sue them without hesitation. its not about the money and time anymore.. its about the principal.. they can take there silver lining and put it where the sun doesnt shine... cause its a LIE.

o wow.. this really tops it.. so i cancelled my policiy with west bend mutual over six weeks ago because they SUCK .. they dont pay claims.. yada yada.. i figured.. forget it.. just get away from them and get a new insurance company.. which i did. today .. they conveniently took a payment out of my bank account when i cancelled with them SIX weeks ago.. nice.. lets just add insult to injury..
first they dont pay my legitimate claim.. and then when i drop them they basicly continue taking money from my account like nothing happened.....
THE WORST COMPANY EVER.
