Yes, I would stop - I am an EMT myself, I work in the field.. I have for years. You slow down to make sure everyone has stopped, if you see a car isn't stopping, why in the hell would you pose more risk to your patient and go, causing an accident!? You're calling us idiots? DUE REGARD is one of the number one traffic laws in the Emergency field. You can't go tearing around town with your lights and think you now run the show on the road - you have to always have the best interest for your patient, critical or not, and the publics best interest. If the person in the back is dying, the crew member working on them is doing all they can to prevent that - you have to watch out for them to - they're not strapped in back there. So how does not stopping for traffic that IS NOT STOPPING going to benefit anyone!? Now the patient that was being transported has more injuries and so does your partner, yourself and the driver of the other car. Now tell me, how does that make sense? You do realize they have lights on even en route to an emergency? Does that mean even though they don't have the patient yet, you expect them to drive like that? I really hope you're not behind the wheel of one of those vehicles. Any vehicle for that matter.

The manual I read for Ohio license said we are to yield. Even if it didn't common courtesy should tell you to because what if it were you waiting for them to come and help your loved one who was dying. If people used common sense and courtesy a lot of things could be better. Why would you not know to move to the right out of the way? duh

you don't have to stop but ur supposed to yeild and make sure that everybody is stopping for you..I love that the police in Florida(where I live) are cracking down on drivers not pulling over or stopping for emergency vehicles! and its a mighty big fine down here..this situation is sad..You who are saying that EMT/driver get alot of jail time..This person was trying to save somebodys life and made a mistake! Did you ever make a mistake at ur job??? yes this is a life and death situation but it happens..its an accident!People who work in that field deal with life and death every day and its crucial to not make mistakes but it happens..

they are suppose to check each intersection before entering it. To idiots response. They are required to check traffic. And as for the comment "what if the person in the back was dying. If you enter the intersection without checking and everyone involved gets killed then it isn't worth saving the one life.

I dont know the laws that the emts or such need to follow as I am not one .All I know is that people dont care about anyone on the roads ...feels like I am always in with the me first drivers. No matter where we are going they have to get there first no matter if its running a red light ..pulling right in front of you on expressways even though you are suppose to yield and the person has to slam on their brakes or hit you because they cant get over or rolling through a stop sign. And people wonder why there are so many wrecks...inconsiderate drivers and refresher courses and tests will never change that. I feel for all that was involved .

in Ohio.. YOU HAVE TO STOP.. due regard.. look up the michael montecalvo case from years ago... also from lorain county! he spent time in prison.

when ems workers make mistakes at their job it is deadly... same with police and fire.

nurses and doctors can make mistakes... sorry we choose this field, but we love it.

my prayers to the family of the victim.. my prayers to the ems worker that he has the support to go through this.

The old guy should have pulled over. I am sure the lights were flashing and the siren was going. Usually smart people would pull over and get out of the way!!!!!!!!!!
