Lesbian Couple and Kids Denied Family Discount Admission Rate

Amber Koger and Jeri Underwood a lesbian couple and their three children were denied the family discount at a community pool because The Lava Hot Springs Foundation's executive director Mark Lowe maintains that as a state institution they must follow Idaho law which bans same-sex marriage and defines family as being one man and one woman.

So if you're a single mom with six kids, you don't qualify for the family rate?

The real question is, after the pool told the LGBT couple and their kids that they'd have to "move to the back of the bus," did they pay the full rate and go swimming anyway? I hope they had the conviction to get right back in their car and call their lawyer.

I worked at the Lava swimming complex many years ago and we denied the family pass to many. I am not saying that this family should not have been admitted at the family pass. I am merely showing a different view point. Every day people were constantly trying to obtain the family pass rate. Grandma, Uncle Joe, Aunt Lucille twice removed with two children and their three friends all for the family pass rate. I was sixteen years old and had to decide who was "family" and who was not on a daily basis. This was not an easy task. It made me a little bit jaded and I figured over 50% of the people made up stories just to get the reduced rate. It probably started as something as small as that....I highly doubt the clerk even knew the relationship between the two ladies to begin with. Then it escalated from there. I wasn't there, but I know how it works and I guarantee Mark Lowe wasn't standing at the register stating Idaho State definition of family. In my opinion they should do away with the family pass entirely.

I believe they are being disingenous. One adult payed full price and the other got family rate as single parent family.
