I'm wondering how everybody feels about the military getting so many breaks like car loans and stuff like that? I think its a job just like everybody else has here in the United States. They signed up for it..nobody drafted them! Don't get me wrong..I appreciate everything they do to protect us and our freedom, I just think EVERYBODY works hard..why should they be singled out?

Yes you are correct it is their job and they did sign up for it . But you tell me one job that takes you away from everything you know for a whole year . Sure some jobs will send you to another state but you still have a warm shower food that your used to eating and tv that your used to watching .. name one job that where a nice long warm shower is a gift from god that it feels like .. name one other job that you have to sit on the mountain side for days on end guarding something , every time you go to sleep you worry about not waking up .. you sit on said mountain side for so long that you can no longer smell yourself because you and your men havent had showers in weeks.. where your hundred pound gear is your everyday wear and you wont go any where with out it .. Name a job that every time you call home might be the last time you hear your kids voice or your wife's voice .. you miss seeing your kids grown up .. you watch them grow up via pictures and online so what they get something .. tell me is that car loan worth missing your childs first word or their first chirstmas or birthday ?? I dont think so .. There is not anything worth that to me .. I love my country but its not worth missing my kids and family for .. So what a local store wants to give them a discount .. thats up to the store owners not the people in the military . I love my soldier with all my heart ..I Dont see where every one says we get all these things for free because we dont .. i think since we have been here we got one thing for free was getting into the watertown fair on military military appreciation day.. we went and didnt even know it was that day .. what a shock to us .. it saved us a whole whopping like 10.00 so the small discounts that are given is not worth seeing him come home with blisters the size of my hands on his feet because he had a 10 mile rd march in full gear .. or him gone for weeks at a time training in the field .. or the PTSD that he suffers from now.. the nightmares that keep him up at night to the point that he sleeps very little anymore.. the nights that i have seen him cry over the friends that he lost . that he watched die in front of him . so tell me is that just like any other job ? is that worth the petty discounts that they get ? yes he signed up for it yes its his job he does it because of his love for this country .. is it so bad that someone shows the love back ?

You're absoluetly right! But....everybody in life in general endures hardships such as these. Just wondering why the military gets all these offers when EVERYBODY that works suffers too. I appreciate what our soldiers do just don't think its fair that they are singled out. We all work hard to make this country great...

I understand i am an everyday working person .. but not everyone has to endure the hardships .. when i go to work i wont have to see my buddy gunned down .. i wont have to watch people die .. there really isnt all these big discounts that your talking about .. if there are can you tell me because we struggle with our bills .. yeah there are places that offer to sell soldiers cars but have you seen the interest rate on those pieces of junk ?? you would be paying on the interest alone for the next 3 years before you even touch the premium any soldier with a brain would stay away from them ..yes we all suffer hardships .. its sorta like complaining that senior citizens get discounts .. they get them because of the establishments not because of anything else .. If this topic bothers you so much then take it up with the local car dealers and things of that sort . I dont know of one soldier that says they wont go to a place because they dont offer a military discount .. and actually i dont know of any that do but if you know of any please tell me because like every one else we struggle to make ends meat and i babysit for extra money as well because of the gas prices .. but being in any armed forces is way dif that any other job.. i go to work and come home everyday .. sure i might see things that piss me off or i might die in a car wreck on the way .. but i dont have to carry a hundred pound gear on my back all day and worry about getting shot .. or seeing the things he sees .. I respect your opinion .. but i dont understand all the breaks we get that your talking about ..

All I know that is if I had to be away from my family for the period of time that these soldiers do, I would be out of my mind!! I'm sorry that you all have such a sacrifice in your lives. THANK YOU for you and your children's sacrifices for our freedom!!! I don't know your soldier and have never met him but I love him too!! All I can hope is that we bring our soldiers home!! Enough is enough!!

Yea but before 9/11 not all troops were sent overseas for a year at a time. When my uncle was in he was never deployed. I know their job is not easy and I thank each and everyone of them for the sacrifices they make every day for this country.

I think what Calliegirl is referring to could be discounts at places like Aero, retailers & other places that advertise discounts.I agree that I have nothing but respect for our armed forces and their families. They all have a tough job and I truely respect what they sacrifice for this country!!I to have been a little peeved when shopping and asked if I have military id, when I asked what for they the clerk responded the discount.I mean whatever it is what it is.I was only annoyed because I choose to live here does that mean I am chopped liver?!

I dont get it because i dont serve ..

THIS IS DIRECTED TO "LOVEMYSOLDIER": I personally would like to thank your soldier for his service to our country. I would also like to thank you and your family for your service as well, and by that, I mean the fact that you have to sacrifice time with your soldier while he is doing his job. I am a civilian, from a civilian family and want you to know that these other JEALOUS posters on this thread do NOT speak for the bulk of my community or my country. All you have to do is take note of all the "support our troops" emblems in stores, on homes, on vehicles to know that your soldier and your family is appreciated for the sacrifice that you all have to make. The small handful of people whining about a few dollars off at a store are NOT what makes this country. Whiners are just that whiners!! They whine that you get a discount.....if you weren't getting a discount they would whine about that. You hold your head proud when you present your military ID and you get every discount you can get my dear, because by God you deserve it! God Bless your soldier, your family and you!

To God Bless Our Troops .. thank you so much for thanking him .. I on the other had need no thanks .. I am just a normal mom who loves her man and will stand beside him no matter what .. I still get the joy of getting butterflies in my tummy when he is coming home from a week in the field . I got the moment of holding him in my arms when he got back from deployment .. I got to learn what a lot of women take for granite the joy of having him home . I do get where some people think its not fair but that is life .. Life is not fair :( Its not fair that i buried a child that never got to come home from the hospital . 9/11 is a big life is not fair .. cancer is not fair its not fair that my husband suffers from PTSD and shakes and wakes up scared .. People need to be thankful for what we do have .. I dont drive a new car i have a 1999 car but im thankful that it runs and gets us where we need to go . we only have one car and we make it work.. Im sorry that these people feel like they are chopped liver to quote one poster on here .. but stop and be thankful for the fact that your husband or boyfriend is home .. be thankful that you will never have to cry because you missed a phone call and that may have been the last time he would ever call you .. Be thankful that your alive :) Life is to short the complain about what you dont have . because if all you do is complain then you will never have the time to enjoy what you do have :)

I do have a brain thank you and I also do NOT appreciate you attacking me!!I expressed my feelings of support for military and their families.I believe that to include your husband, you and your family.I did NOT bash anyone or say anything hurtful!I only stated a true experience had to further assist you in understanding why the person who started this might be upset.I did inquire about the reasoning for this discount, was given an answer and left it alone.I believe we all need a little more understanding from everyone, bashing each other and making hurtful statements is not appropriate and it would'nt hurt to put yourself in someone elses shoes to get a better understanding at times.

I left a few things out...sorry.I do not believe it is relevent where you or I shop, and I WAS NOT COMPLAINING!!!My 1st, 2nd, 3rd comments were not or are not in any way bashing any military person or their families.I have read the rants on craigslist and find most posts to be ridiculous, then there is that little thing called freedom of speech which we all have.I do not want this to come off the wrong way but I did not find it necessary for you to share what you get into or not.I will explain once again and for the last time why i posted my experience...to maybe help you or anyone else further understand why someone might possibly be taken back by the discount thing and to possibly difuse a situation that could get really ugly.I would love to say next time I won't bother trying to be a good person but I cannot for I try to remain open minded in all situations!!

wow im sorry that you took things so personal .. it was stating in general what i have read on here .. you are correct it doesn't matter where you or i shop.. i will keep my mouth shut seeing i have offended you .. that was not what i set out to do .. I am not the kind of person who will act big and bad behind a computer screen i was stating that i do not know where the discounts were coming from maybe because i shop at walmart .. that had nothing to do with where you shop ..

first of all like love my soldier tried to point out. most of the "discounts" are gimmicks.soldiers are mostly young with a secure "job". the rest are businesses that wish to give a little something to them for the fact that by doing there job they have done something for them..does it upset anyone that i left a tip for the server but not them?

I served for a few years and my husband is still in. I did one tour and he just finished his second. That being said... I appreciate everything the military has done for me and still does for me as a veteran and as a dependent. The breaks that we get are fantastic and we utilize every bit that we can. But, I believe most people do utilize whatever there employer gives for discounts, incentives, insurance, etc. Fire fighters, police officers, and a few other public service positions also provide similar "breaks." Should all discounts and the similar then be removed? Should wal-greens and wall-mart not give employee discounts and stock options? There are advantages and disadvantegous to every job. When the government threatened to shut down, the military would have not gotten paid (as many other gov't paid jobs) and still would have to work... work for free. I do take offense to some of this only because I lost one very good friend and three of my men on my tour, and I don't feel that the discount at aero makes up for that. I will not respond to any posts attacking me directly as I've attacked no one, so let's please continue to maintain this as a discussion. Thanks for reading my opinion.:)
