None. They had to move because the building needed more repairs than it was worth. So I doubt anyone will want to fix it.

yes i was told also it is going to be dollar tree. but think about it what else can gouverneur afford. this town is poor. it has a bad rep for one. nobody talks good about this place. we have had other business come to town but they get so bad mouthed they do not stay. every place that has come here gets bad mouthed. i do not blame anybody for closing and getting out. i am sorry but it is true. if people would just join together and be happy when something comes to town. we need prosperity bad here. jobs would open up.

well surly it isnt just gouverneur that has 3 dollar stores. if im not mistaken so does ogdensburg massena potsdam watertown. just to name a few. so why does having 3 dollar stores make gouverneur so bad.. it doesnt. its the snobby, twofaced, have to talk about everyone, never happy residents 4that makes it a bad town... really who cares what goes there as long as something does that stays and brings in jobs.. get real people.. stop being so judgemental.

Are they actually jobs that pay well enough to make a significant contribution to the local economy? Or is this going to be another minimum wage position filled by various highschool students and graduates without any career prospects beyond $7.25 per hour?

The purchasing power of someone working for minimum wage isn't really strong enough to allow them to shop locally and pump a significant amount of capital into the local economy. They'll likely be living paycheck-to-paycheck, covering rent, their basic needs, and little else.

If the dollar store actually pays a decent, fair price for labor, then great, they could potentially bring some meaningful jobs to the local economy, but I'm not really optimistic. We have enough McJobs in the area, we need more careers.

It doesn't make it bad, it makes it silly. Why can't we get a store that we need, or one that offers something different than 5 other stores in Gouverneur. All those places you mentioned are much bigger than we are, have colleges, or significant big businesses that warrant 3 dollar stores. I can get to all 3 stores on a 20 minute brisk walk. I welcome any business I guess, I'll do my best to frequent each of them but in my opinion, it's just silly.

My point was lost on you but I shouldn't of expected any less from someone with your mentality.

My point is this. While not being the skinniest person in town, I'm not fat either. I exercise almost every night by walking. If I can walk to all three dollar stores within a small amount of time, we have to many within our small town, so close together. Also, not that I should even respond to this but I'm going to nonetheless, I work. Six days a week, over 40 hours a week and since you'd like to be so judgemental when you know nothing about me, I'll stoop to your level and say I work that hard most likely to support your ass after you've spent all your food stamps on soda and cigs. You can thank me later.

They are all in the downtown district that is fairly small. Do you think one store should build out on the outskirts of Johnstown street or Peabody Road? They build in town to get the most foot and car traffic. They are in business to make money. One can only hope they draw in more business and another will eventually close. It is called competition. They all sale mainly the same thing and that is why people look for other reasons to go there like convenience and how they are treated and cleanliness, etc. Enjoy a another building or lot being filled an a few more jobs. Also it can attract other businesses that build off traffic of another.
