Josh,
It would be difficult to estimate your lights or water for two reasons. First there is no "average" 2 bedroom house in Pensacola. This city is so diverse and I would have no way of knowing which part of the city you were thinking of moving to. A house in one part would not compare to a house in another. Secondly we have more than one water company here and their rates are quite different. We also have mandatory trash pick up that runs about 20.00 a month.

Some things you should know, if you live within the city limits and you live in a house you must keep your yard maintained ( mowed ) or you will be subjected to a fine. Many people prefer to live outside of the city limits for this very reason so they can mow on weekends and not when the city decides to make their rounds because the grass does grow quickly in the summer.( they don't wish to mow on Saturday and the city make rounds on Friday and get fined because the grass is too high and they were going to mow the next day again)

We do have crime just as any other city has crime but I don't think it is an outrageous amount considering the size of our city. In fact I would say it is rather low compared to our city's size.

We are a tourist town so there are times of the year when traffic can get heavy and our roads are almost constantly under construction somewhere in the city.( however improvement is always a good thing)

We have free concerts on the beach regularly, free concerts in our town square, art festivals, sausage festivals, strawberry festivals, air shows, museums etc. tons of free things to do on a regular basis

The job market here is about the same as anywhere else... we are struggling. There are jobs out there but one must hunt them down and be diligent to find them. Because we are a military town there are also the bases one can apply for jobs as well.

We have 3 civillian hospitals and one military hospital, 3 movie theaters, 2 skating rinks, a few bowling alleys, tons of night clubs, more restaurants than you will probably ever be able to eat in, a couple go cart tracks, a few pool halls. A sheriff station to serve the county and a police station to serve the city area. We also have Pensacola State College and University of West Florida Colleges here in our town.

and last but certainly not least we have our beautiful beaches

I hope I have given you some helpful information, I know it is not all that you need but it is all that I have to offer. Good luck and I hope someone else can provide you with the rest.

Pensacola has a below average cost of living. Unfortunately, jobs and wages are below average as well. It is relatively clean and has a diverse population compared to many southern cities due to the many military installations and the fact that many military families return here for retirement. This is due partly to it's beauty and also due the fact that the military bases and hospitals provide benefits to military retirees.

The approximate racial demographic for Esambia County which is the Pensacola metro area(2005) is as follows:

White:70%
Black:22%
Hispanic: 2%
Asian:2%
Other:4%

There is much rich history here and many historic and archeological sites, forts, and other places of interest. The Museum of Naval Aviation, located at NAS Pensacola, is one of the largest aviation museums in the Nation and is free to the public.

The adjacent county, Santa Rosa is a 15 minute drive. It is called the canoe capital of Florida and has many beautiful creeks and rivers with white sand beaches that rival the Gulf.

Pensacola has a new maritime sports complex on the bay to accomidate the Pensacola Blue Wahoos baseball team.

The downtown historic area has been revitalized and is a great place to visit. There are many great restaurants and shops to see.

As someone stated before-the beach-free concerts or just soaking up the sun and surf.

I have lived here for 22 years and can honestly say that I love Pensacola, shortcomings and all. Overall, it is a wonderful place to live, raise a family, and retire.

I am thinking about moving to Pensacola. I currently live in Jacksonville North Carolina. I've lived here for the past 20 years of my life. I've gone through a few changes in the past year and I feel a much needed change is due. My aunt lives in Pensacola so I would at least know 1 person. I am worried about the school systems. I have a 6 year old daughter and I don't want to take her out of a great school to put her in a school where they don't care. Please info? Thank you in advance!

I just moved to Gulf Breeze from Florida recently. I'm always driving through Pensacola or having something to do there. It's a great city, but there are some parts I'm not thrilled about. I love going Downtown and by the Marina. Pensacola is a great place and the weather here is wonderful!

Im a life long resident of Indiana and looking to relocate to Pensacola. I am married have grown kids who want to relocate with me. Schools are not an issue for us but jobs & housing of course are. Looking for information of substance and possible guidance in this move. I would like responses in the open forum and possibly "pen pal" exchange for more in depth discussion concerning things as I move forward. Any information concerning the area is deeply appreciated as I am unfamiliar with your area.

Thank you.:)

I hope who ever decides to move to Pensacola Florida is not bringing any kids. Pensacola is a great place to retire but if there is any kinds involved run. your kids will be introduced to drugs and racism. I don't care if you think you are raising them right this place will suck every moral standing you taught them out, trust me I know. Pensacola will suck the life out of your kids, if not the will be addicted to the most current drug. I am trying my hardest to move away from this place

OK... If your retired and you have no kids to worry about why is Pensacola a good place to relocate to? My wife and I retired and moved to western South Carolina in June but my wife doesn't like it here so we're thinking about moving to Pensacola and we're looking for more info.
