Gosnell needs to get out of the dark ages. The school board is not following the law. The board needs to be zoned because of the minority population that lives in the district. That is the state law. The district also has less black teachers than any district in the state to have close to 30% minority students. It is a shame. The black community needs to start voicing there opinion. Stay tuned to more on this issue.

The sad thing about the district is that they really don't care about the students. They put on a show like they do but the teachers that work at Gosnell know the truth. More teachers need to be hired, the admin. needs to discipline the students more, and like preacher man said there needs to be a few African-American role models teaching in the district. The Supt. is ok but its time for him to retire. He doesn't even live in the district full-time. Community patron's realize that things aren't as rosy as they seem but most realize the consequences if they complain. The same goes for the teaching saff. I comend the Supt. for having a board full of yes men that do not know how to think for themselves. School's like Marked Tree which have a higher black population have raised there minority schools as has other delta districts. Gosnell hasn't. The Admin. uses race as a cop-out. The district also doesn't do enough for the special need children. I could go on and on but will leave it for another day.

In my opinion, from my children going to school there, we need to get rid of a teacher or two that have no business teaching children!

I belive that every year there is a board election. If you are not willing to run and change it then shut up. It is easy to sit at your house and eat handfulls of M&Ms and do nothing. Get up and do something about it. Last board meeting I was at nobody was there. Hard to belive anbody cares when nobody acts like. Don't want to be on the board, go to the parent center, join the booster club, or just go to your childs teacher and ask "Can I help you in any way?". Just do something besides griping.

Are you on the board yourself?? Didn't think so. Maybe we do go the parent center, maybe we are in the booster club and maybe we have tried talking to the teacher and even the administration and nothing is ever done. I can promise you I am involved in my children's life in school and everything else they do. I have tried working with the teacher, and all I get is complaints back from her. The administration needs to take complaints seriously and look at the teachers and find ways to solve the issues. I am not saying all of the teachers are bad, but there are a few. For the most part, my kids have had great teachers. And in my opinion, and that is all it is, the schools are pushed to 'teach' the kids way too fast these days, they expect them to learn too much too early.

I agree with you that all schools need to hire people of all different races. However, you need to check the percent of African Americans who are getting teaching degrees. Many are getting degrees in other areas.

This is in response to Guest and be involved. Teachers and parent's do complain but it is to no avail. The school does not have a PTA because the board and Admin. does not want one. They want 100% control and the Supt. wants only yes men on the school board. This is a known fact throughout the community. Parent's do complain to board members which are elected to represent the patrons. They give a deaf ear because all they are interested in is kissing up to the Supt. His replacement will be the current asst. Supt. The school board is too lazy to take apllications and hire the best candidates. This happens with a lot of oppennings. How many of the board members even show up for school events or even realize what is going on? Not very many. More teachers do not gripe because they realize that there will be back lash fron the Admin. I think a public forum needs to be held to address some of these issues. In response to guest. Osceola,Blytheville,Rivercrest ,EPC,Marked Tree,Marion,Nettleton,Jonesbor o,etc.... all have plenty of black teachers. Gosnell has one. I have heard adminastrator's state that the district doesn't need any black employees. They also try to run off as many of the black student's as they can. Stay tuned to more later.

another thought. Only seven members are on the board. that doesn't mean other's don't care. The board exists to take care of the district to the best of there ability. They should listen to the patrons. It is our district. The problem is that these board members don't care what patrons think. They believe that they are above everyone else and really have no clue to what is going on.

The problem is it would do no good to have a town meeting about the school's. The board and Admin would then just make it hard on the people that have new idea's and solution's. Uniform's is just a cop out for the real problem's.

You know, I have been a student at this school for quite sometime, and I will soon be an "alumni" in a few months. I just want everyone to know that though their are darksides to this school and some things are not handled the right way, I just want everyone that "hates" on the school to know that I never want to see the Gosnell School District go down in the dumps. This school has alot of history and I agree that things need to change for the better, but the spirit of Gosnell will never die. The BLUE and GOLD, the BLUE and GOLD will live FOREVER

I don't think these people are being negative. They just want to see some things corrected before it is too late.

I must agree that they don't hire the best because they hired you. You have poor grammar and spelling. I hope you have a better attitude in the classroom. Why don't you seek employment elsewhere? It is obivious that you are unhappy at Gosnell. There are problems at every school. I have worked at several schools in this area and it is never perfect. You are not speaking for all teachers. Also, it is a fact that African American teachers are in short supply. You need to find out how many African American teachers have been hired in the last few years at the schools you mentioned.

I agree with all the posts that state things are going backwards at Gosnell. Patrons that think otherwise are living in a fantasy world. The admin. cares nothing about the student's.

There has been talk of uniforms for Gosnell students for many years, Uniforms will not solve any problems just look at Blytheville Schools. They need to enforce the dress codes they have in place now.

Why don't you just see how many African American's apply at Gosnell and you might see why they don't hire any, because ther aren't any. The school normally keeps the same staff year after year and that says a lot for the school system. They have a low teacher turn over and their test scores are continuing you rise. I don't see the problem here, if you want to teach and your African American, go for it. Remember though, you have attend college. If you don't want to do that, sit down and shut up. Those teachers up there are giving it all they have and it's parents like you that get in their way. My child is colored and I feel the teachers are doing the best that they can with what they have.

They definetly need to get rid of the Kennemore lady that looks manly. She has a history of paddling elementary kids and leaving marks. She has been reported to the school board and they have done nothing about her. Gosnell School district has gone sour. They are not worried about the children just payroll checks. Some of the teachers have drinking problems and one was on the front page of the newspaper a couple of years ago for being caught with pot in Paragould. Needless to say she still teaches 1st grade. Sets a good example for the kids doesn't it. ahahahh

I really doubt that you are black Sally Sue. I know for a fact that several black elem. teachers have applied for jobs and have never gotten an interview. Yet several of them had master degrees. Every other school district in the county makes an effort to hire quality teachers. Gosnell doesn't have a high turn over but will have several retire in the next five years. I don't care if 10 or 50 blacks apply. I would bet the farm that they don't hire any of them. I agree about having teachers on staff that don't belong. I do not want to get personal but I can name more than 7 that have big time problems.

Well just get to naming...I would like to see who has applied. I find it hard to believe that there have been many to apply for jobs here since there weren't many that graduated if you looked at the colleges. I am black and proud of it, got a problem with that. I feel that we always want to feel sorry for ourselves and not look at the whole picture. Does it matter if their black or white as long as our kids are getting their education, and from what I can see they are. As for the Kennemore lady, I bet the students don't want to come back to the office after being paddled!! That should be it, they shouldn't want to come back but some of them don't care because their momma and daddy will be up at school rasing cane. Let the school handle it and everything will be ok.

You must have Ms. Kennemore confused with someone else. She doesn't look manly. Most women would love to look like her. I have never heard of her leaving any marks on children. I've known her not to paddle unless their is a history of repeated office visits and parental permission. You are an awful person to say what you did about the first grade teacher. Teachers are human and make mistakes. Did you know that she lost her child? Who is to say how any of us would deal with such a tragedy. I could sit here and say that I would never do this or that if that happened to me. I've learned in life that you never know how you would deal with anything until it happens to you. I do believe that is the worst thing that can happen to a human being, to loose a child. Her students love her. Former students tell her all the time how much they love and miss her. I've seen her scrape money together to buy her students a gift. Do you ever volunteer at the school? If not, you should and then you would know what really goes on there. You would see teachers working hard to ensure their students are learning. You would see teachers spending their own money to buy supplies for their students. You would see a wonderful support staff who look out for your children. It is always so easy to sit on your duff and talk about something. It takes a person of real substance to get up and do something. If those who complain all the time would work with the school, instead of bashing it, you would start to see positive changes. You could be a good role model if you spent some time at the school and then you would have something true to speak about. You would have first hand knowledge not gossip.
