I've read about this. These outfits get you to lease your land but want you to be responsible for clean up and damages. I also read that its really bad for the environment. Are they doing that around here?
Yup

Everyone should attend this meeting and ask questions. Whether you are for or against fracking, you should voice your opinion. This is something that will have a very direct impact on both the economy and the environment.

The only people who will see any money is the landowners, the gas Co, and the government. Oh and that bigshot attorney who has been singing their praises. Betcha a dollar he has incentive one way or another. Too bad the people around here don't put a stop to it.

Will they be providing EPA environmental impact reports from existing wells, chemical data sheets about the chemicals used, and information about who is in charge of regulations?

Snap out of it man. Are you on crack? They aren't going to tell us any of that. Its going to be a big show with that crackerhead attorney that was on the news jumping around and saying how safe it is and how much money it will pump into the economy. The people around here are going to jump on the wagon now and then cry 10 years from now about how they were lied to and how the contamination is killing them.

Why don't you both grow up and act like adults. If you want free unbiased info from University of Illinois and Ohio State attend the meeting. If not, go to your local coffee shop.

Here's a simple fix. Find an attorney who is willing to fight for The Department of Natural Resources to file a moratorium on hydraulic fracturing activity in the state of Illinois until such a time that a regulatory commission has been put in place to monitor such activity, long term impact reports have been released by the EPA, and OSHA mandates that all msds's have to disclose EVERY chemical used in the process. Problem solved. If I were an attorney I would do it my damn self

I have a friend who signed a lease. It clearly says that the landowner is financially responsible for damages and spills on property. So if the drilling company has a toxic spill, my friend has to pay for it. What a deal

Hydralic fracturing polutes the ground water. Once the groundwater is destroyed it can never be cleaned.

I have lived in goreville for 30 years. This is beautiful country, and I mean all of southern Illinois. I am appalled that the DNR, let alone the citizens would let this happen. I am not against economic development, I.e. drilling, mining, etc. I am against destroying our environment to do so. This method of hydraulic fracturing urgently needs to have regulations, and the citizens are the only ones who can make that happen. We need to have these operations suspended now.

From what I gather they were being pressured and didn't take the time to have the contract examined.
