New Gordonville Sewage System

New Gordonville Sewage System

I am now having problems with sewage backing up through my basement drain. The contractor that has been hired by Gordonville to connect everyone to the new city system connected our line approximately one week ago. As soon as the work was completed my wife and I noticed that waste water was backing up into the basement. I called the Gordonville water department and left a message and never received a response. Since they are only there one day per week I now have to wait for another week or two to call them. I will be calling Waters Engineering sometime tomorrow to see if they are willing to fix this problem that was obviously cause by their work.

I am also deeply troubled by the fact that many residents are apparently receiving astronomical sewer bills. I have discovered that the city calculates the sewage bills by using a mathmatical formula based off a three month average of each residents water usage. I have heard figures of monthly sewer bills ranging from $30.00 or $40.00 up to as much as $120.00 each month. My relative, who has been a resident of Gordonville for several years, said his latest sewer bill was in excess of $60.00. Add the water bill to that figure, which means he paid well over $100.00 for one month of water and sewage. That is unacceptable. I only paid an average of $58.00 each month for water, sewage, and trash in the city of Cape Girardeau. How does the city of Gordonville justify these huge bills?

My other question is this, why does the city of Gordonville need all of this additional revenue? And what exactly are they doing with it? Also, who has determined that this "mathmatical formula" is accurate? Was there a comprehensive study completed to determine the accuracy of this formula? Also think about this....what if someone was filling their pool during that three month time frame? What if someone watered their flowers or lawn three times each day during the record heat our area experienced this summer? What I am getting at is the fact that not all of the water used is going straight into the sewer system. It gets evaporated or runs off into a ditch or pond.

THIS IS NOT FAIR FOR THE CITIZENS OF GORDONVILLE. PERIOD!!! It's not fair for anyone. Unless the city of Gordonville can prove beyond the shadow of a doubt that their new bill calculation system is accurate, then they better get to changing some things. And they better do it fast. I will be digging deeper into this for the next several weeks. I will be doing my homework and I'll be attending city council meetings starting in November. I will also be requesting all pertinent information regarding this new system. Myself, along with a few other residents are prepared to take the city of Gordonville head-on. If anyone else is interested in joining me please email me at...... [email protected] That is my work email. I will do my best to exhaust all diplomatic solutions. If unfairness, wrong-doing, or negligence is uncovered and a solution is not found, I will seek grounds for legal action. I really hope I do not have to do that. But I suspect that many residents are being treated unfairly by this. And from what I have gathered most residents opposed the new waste water system. This tells me that some favors were done and that someone is making money from all this. This is just my suspicion, not an implication.

Residents of Gordonville were all lied to from the start, this is not a sewer system, It is a get rich scheme created by waters engineering,
the only thing this system does is take the water out of your septic system and carries it to a sand filter (residents were at least getting to use this water in their yards and it was being filtered by nature already)They lied told residents that this was a sewer system (not even close) they told many that if they did not sign up that they would take their homes, even the billing woman Becky Andrews was involved with making these calls to residents and she does not even live in the town. Bottom line most people were lied to or threatened into signing.

Well, figured out the problem. I called Waters Engineering and they put me into contact with Kajacs Contracting. They came over and checked out the problem. Turns out it was tree roots in our sewage line. The contractor cleaned out the tree roots and now the line is draining normal. So, with that being said I would like to formally apologize to both Waters Engineering and Kajacs Contractors for blaming our problem on their work. I jumped to a conclusion without thinking rationally and also not allowing them a chance to check out the problem. And honestly, I feel like a complete ass.

The contractor that came out to our house was very kind and generous. I can't thank him enough for helping us. And as far as this being a "get rich quick scheme" I don't think that is an accurate generalization. Building a waste water system for a town of 400 people isn't going to make anyone rich. And blaming the contractors for the problem isn't a very nice thing to do either. They are just honest working people trying to earn a living, just like you and I.

I will still be going to city council meetings to ask questions about the billing system. But I will have absolutely nothing bad to say about Waters Engineering or Kajacs Contractors. That's a certainty.

It is standard practice for sewer bills to be figured on water usage for only three months of the year. NOTE the three months they typically choose are when your water bills are the LOWEST, January, February, and March. Nobody fills pools, waters lawns, washes cars in these three months, so the sewer bill is figured on average water use that goes down the drain...

You apparently have no idea what is going on with this town and its sewer system. So please tend to your own towns affairs and stay out of ours.
