Are they really taking up money to help pay for the championship rings? Heard they get a grant and TSSAA money to help pay for the rings. What kind are they looking at that they are having to take up donations?! I've heard a number per ring, but refuse to believe it because it would mean they are buying solid gold rings. I'm a HUGE supporter, been to almost every home game for years, went to the biggest majority of their away games and try to buy something every time it is sold, but this is just too much. Please tell me they aren't thinking of paying between $500 and $600 per ring, possibly higher. Number I have heard from a couple of the football parents is close to $40,000, give a take a couple of thousand. They should have rings, it's a tradition, but does it have to be solid gold?

It should absolutely be gold. They deserve it!

Totally agree they deserve rings, but not $40,000 worth of gold rings. People, including children, are going without food and other basic necessities. Impossible to justify asking the community for that kind of money when there is a possibility some of those very player's families are some of the ones in need in this community. Love GHS and will always be a Tiger, but this is just wrong.

According to two coach's wives, including Coach Marshall's, and some of the football parents, they have to raise the money for the football boys. Not taking that one anyone's else word, I read their own words myself. They are all over Facebook asking for donations to help pay for rings. Like I said, I have no trouble donating money to help, but I think they should let us know how much they are wanting. Keep it reasonable and it will be raised in no time. Ask for $35K plus in rings and it isn't going to go over well in a struggling economy.

I think that is the problem. The ones who know don't want to give out the amount needed because they are afraid they will feel they have gone too far and won't help. The information needs to come through either the coach or the school so there is only one person to question about it.

I understand that could be a lot of money but those boys worked hard for it and there are a lot of people that feel they deserve it at whatever cost. There always has to be a sour grape in the bunch. If you don't agree with it don't donate and drop it cause at that point its none of your business how much they cost unless you are paying for them. Congrats boys you deserve the rings and the best you can get at that.

Totally agree! Talking to some people very much involved with the football program and a school official, they said the rings were closer to $800 a ring and if they had to get the cheerleaders rings they would need at least $65000. Seems some people want to know where all the money from the gate has been going. Good luck with that.

Someone check into the concession stand dollars.....where do the dollars go? Word is no one can touch anything concerning food because of complete control by co cession stand. Owners. Booster club parents have asked to have food stands and were denied because of power dictated by concession ladies. Cruises every year, and people hired to work in stands so there should be lots of dollars.

Why would the cheerleaders need a ring? That's getting a little ridiculous. I can see the players getting one but not cheerleaders.

Heading to church and I hear some unhappy people talking about the cost of the rings at the gas station. Everybody wants them to have a ring and thinks the school should pay for it. Costs needs to be capped at $200 a ring and football team only. I think thats a good idea.

Don't mind all all supporting the boys, giving but just sayn they need to look into some of the money issues at the school....when school board members talk about it its made public...not sayn that parents have wanted to know about concession stand dollars for years and years, and its just said its used to run the office...not...but defintely cheerleadrs DO NOT need championship rings, and if that was what they were taking donations for, I don't think parade. Goers would have given. People were told it was for the players

We don't want this to take away from the team and coaches, but the school needs to step up and take ownership instead of sitting back and begging fans and families to pay when they have paid all season and the past seasons. Get real and do the part the school needs to take responsibility for and I'm sure everyone will want to help. But cheerleader rings are not a necessity....get them a jacket or runout suit or shirt. The fans cheered louder than the cheerleaders.
