It's unfortunate that loocal businesses are losing out to large comglomerate merchants. When people started buying foreign cars, the sound of American dollars being sucked overseas will eventually ruin this country, slowly but surely. The government has sold off the American automotive industry, Michigan's largest employer......what's next?

At one time, this was a very good ongoing business. Over the years, though, the family running the business were self-centered, treated their employees terrible - one committed sucicide when they cut his pay 1/3 after years of service, and ended up being just loathsome people. The Grahams are now a laughing stock in the community - behind their backs. Too bad.

The above comments are untrue - I worked for the lumber company almost 30 years, there were at least 4 others like me. Our pay and treatment were always superior to the competition. The reason we closed was the 95% drop in building permit activity.

When it came time to close the business all employees were given at least 60 days notice. The fellow that committed suicide had a history of attempts and mental illness. The company did not cut his pay - they did move him from one location to another - the move could have been a trigger but so could the sudden death of his mother just a few months before his death.

I miss working for the Graham and James families - they were very decent people.

I'm searching for Jeff Ward, who at one time, was the son of an owner. This was in the late 1960's. Does anybody know him?
