why is it that kids that have no money, will no longer be able to have a peanut butter sandwich. what happend to no child left behind. and no child goes hungry. I think it's time for McDonald County to stand up to the school board. even now the kids are staying hungry at lunch time. Let us decide what our kids eat. Some of these kids get one meal a day. Then you sent them home hungry, SHAME ON YOU. Maybe we need to take in a loaf of bread and some penut butter, if the school fills it is to costly to feed a hungry child.

It is a parent's job to feed and provide for their children, NOT the state or the school. Whatever happened to good ole fashioned American pride? We have become a nation of hand-out takers, instead of enjoying the fruit of our hard work. I suggest you quit having kids you can't afford to feed and quit depending on the nanny state to take care of them. Amen.

And shame on the parents who only give their kids one meal a day! That's neglect. Perhaps they could put off buying their booze, cigarrettes, and drugs, and spend their money on some food? What has happened to America?

I agree. first of all I have no kids in school, I work two jobs, pay my taxes on time. Don't do drugs, drink nor do i smoke. But what about the 5 year old little girl that goes to school hungry, because maybe her dad had a beer that night. you look in her eyes and tell her about american pride. Some kids fall between the lines. should they not eat.we don't know how they live, but we do know they didn't ask to be here or hungry. When a stand before god and he says I see you tried to help feed a small child that was hungry, I will smile back an say thats my American pride.

Of course every child SHOULD eat. But it is a fallen world from sin, and kids go hungry. They do in 3rd world countries. My comment about American pride is for the parents. If they spent more time looking at children as a blessing from God instead of a burden, they would be a much higher priority, and these kids would not go hungry. Mine doesn't. I got the letter from the school and I wasn't outraged. All these budget cutbacks show that the nanny state is going broke from too many feel good socialist ideas. I tell you this: if the parents won't feed their kids, its not the state's job. But it is the job of the Christian church. Christians need to step up now and feed these kids. That's our job. There will always be unsaved, uncaring parents who neglect their kids. But there should also be Christians showing charity to make sure these kids get fed. But not the state.

I agree with that. But i work for the school lunches, A little 7 year boy came up to me with his lunch tray. But no money in his account, did mom forget or just didn't care.I told him he had no money. so he ask for a sandwich,I had to tell him I'm sorry but we don't do that anymore. The look on his face broke my heart. He was just hungry. He walk off with his head down and his little friends laughing. So I took off after him a I paid for his lunch. Just maybe the state could cut back somewhere else. or maybe we just need to find another way.

Sounds like you did the Christian thing. Jesus said to not just say to someone "be filled", but to feed them. Good job :)

Well I think It's a bunch of bull crap... How dare they take food away from children... How about those parents that work their butts off working 2 jobs just to support their children and don't do drugs and don't smoke or drink but are struggling and trying their freakin best to provide for their children but fall between that line between reduced, free and full price lunches... It's ridiculous what they charge for lunches... Also what if their parents are busting their butts at work and weren't told that their child's account was low and aren't able to just take off work and go put money in their account then what is that child to do how embarrassing for that child... Could you imagine how badly that child would get teased some children even with suppose christian values in their homes are mean... Also isn't this school suppose to be trying to get their test scores up how well does that look when that child didn't get something nutritious to eat and how badly their test scores are going to drop.. some people have to work and bust their butts to provide for their children and aren't just handed things to them...

Wow! A bleeding heart liberal at their finest. All these "what if" scenarios and none of it matters. What part of "a parents responsibility to take care of their children" did you not understand??? A RESPONSIBLE parent makes sure there is money in their child's account. And poor kids get free or reduced lunches anyway. As far as children getting teased, that issue is taken seriously by the school district. They have a 0 tolerance policy for bullying and harrassment. And should the school fail to address the issue promptly and completely, you better bet I will be down there to encourage them to protect my child. Give up your liberal ranting, Concerened mom. Its a waste of time. Provide for your own and help where you can. But quit blaming the school board for not subsidizing lazy parents. Because let's face it. Kids who get a free lunch don't need money in their account. You gotta make over 50 thousand a year to not get help, so then it becomes an issue of being too lazy to call the school and make sure your child has their account, and not an issue of being poor.

Anderson guy. I think you may be crossing the line with that one. I've read some of your posts and for the most part I agree with you. But there are people out there who have lost jobs and just trying to keep the lights on, and food in the house for the family. They just dont have the money for it all and have to wait until the kids get home to eat. I wish every child could eat at school also. But alot of people just dont have the extra. I've seen some of the children get teased for having the reduced or free lunch and that is just as hard on the kids too. Its a very sad deal. We can all thank the first lady for that one. I'm pretty sure its not the board. She has cut several thing out of school lunch programs, (portion sizes, white flour.) In this county alot of people dont drink, smoke, drugs or fancy cars and just dont make enough. We need to have sympothy for them and not judge them. No offense intended, just didnt agree with that last post.

anytime. But I spoke the truth, and I stand behind what I said. The truth isn't popular these days, but it is what it is. I don't care if anyone agrees with me or not. I'm not in a popularity contest. And one more thing. Its against the law to threaten people, even on topix. Watch out! Your IP address can be tracked and you could get a visit from law enforcement!

AND ONCE AGAIN....if they've lost their job, they qualify for free lunches, paid for by yours truly. As far as the quality of the lunch goes, that's a good thing! White flour is poison. I'm glad they're making them healthier. We have too much obesity in children.

And I am not judging. Did you know Missouri has one of the highest number of smokers in the country? For a carton of ciggarettes, you can buy a child a lot of food. You think I have no sympathy? WRONG. As a christian, it grieves me to see children suffering. But even poor kids in America are better off than in third world countries. Are they not??? Yes or no? But I also realize this world is evil because of SIN. And soon the Lord Jesus will return and set up his glorious kingdom. But until then, realize it is a fallen world, and sometimes it isn't fair, not even in the good ole USA.

wow thats all i have to say just wow... are you freaking kidding me what an ass and seriously agree you need your ass kicked.... i DO provide for my own and would damn sure provide for others if i was asked... also RESPONSIBLE parents make mistakes and forget and arent lazy... wow and also realize that if someone has lost their job it takes 30 days to process the free and reduced lunch form so what is that child suposed to do while their family is struggling to find a new job and try to provide for their child... as far as the no bullying thing are you kidding me as my child was bullied and it took me 3 days to drag it out of them to tell me what was going on and i went down there the day i found out and was told well a little verbal bulling is going to happen but when it turns physical thats when we step in.. so tell me again 0 tolerance... and really i was just stating what i thought i wasnt BLAMING anyone just stating that its bull crap.. k.. and really how do you know that its not a issue of being poor you dont know their problems you sure think you do but really you dont...

First of all I am a parent of students that go to these schools. When I got the letter I have to say yes I was outraged! Take the politics out of the game for a sec and look into a child's eyes who may be hungry regardless of their employment status, or home values. I would not turn away a child who is hungry. It's sad as a PARENT and as an ADULT! Did we all not just see in the paper today that federal funding was cut to the food pantries?? Yes a lot of these cuts are affecting these children. 60% of McDonald county gets free or reduced lunches. I pay full price for my children and we struggle. But if my child comes home one day and says mom I paid for someone's lunch today, I'm gonna give them a hoorah! They are children for gods sake! And if I have to get a drive together for people to donate a couple of their hard earned dollars for a jar of peanut butter and crackers to send to these schools then so be it!! This is not about the children anymore it has become about the money just like everything else! Let's ALL be Christians and do the right thing and help thy neighbor people!! Quit being hateful and mean and just put the kids first!

Oh and one more thing. Yes 0 tolerance is great and all for bullying but honestly do you really think the high school student or any other student when getting snickered at in the lunch line for not having money and being turned away, is gonna run to their principal and say that someone is picking on them? I highly doubt it. It was hard enough taking the peanut butter sandwich because they had no money but now being turned away completely. It's sad and it's not right no matter who you are.

it's all about the money. I can't buy anyone lunch anymore, If a do i could lose my job. Why i'm I being told how to spend my money? It looks like we will have to turn a blind eye to this. God help us all because i can't live with myself knowing i turned my back on a child
