I'm interested in moving to Goldsboro from Memphis. I like the old, historic districts. Are the neighborhoods safe around South Williams Street? What are the schools like ? Could you recommend a family oriented area?

Goldsboro is a nice place to live if you are raising a family, just like any city you go to their is going to be crime it also depending on what side of town you are living on. It all boils down to income. I personally has been here all of my life and was raised in Goldsboro city housing. I have later well educated myself and moved to the outskirts of town. which can be a bit pricy but the school district is good. S.William st....NOoooo. Two are my fav family oriented area's are the Rosewood area (which im bias to this one :D) Eastern Wayne area also has good schools & Ive heard great things about the CB Aycock area. Please let me know if you need more info I will be more than willing to help you.

Reading all those comments about my home town, and some of them were kind of mean. If I could, I'd move there in a minute, knowing that some things change over time, and my time there was very safe and very good. My friends and I could walk anywhere in the downtown area or side streets and never worry about crime. I still love the town, but not necessarily Center Street. It was a fabulous time in my life. Center street was the main drag. Meet your friends there? Always~~~

I love goldsboro too, I also wanted my children to be cougars and cougarettes :D...that hope faded with the fall of GHS. I decided to stay here after I had children b/c I feel that where Im located at is safe. there's way more crime in the larger cities, but we are in a small town where everyone knows each other/family and word spread quick via word of mouth not the evening news...I wish you the best on your move here to Goldsboro, why Goldsboro?

Looking to move -
Goldsboro is very like many other towns and cities in eastern North Carolina - housing is reasonable, there is no real industrial base, lots of unemployment, etc. and more pverty than there should be. Much of the industry and businesses are outside of Goldsboro due to tax issues. If you live in G'boro, the city tax does double your propetty tax. I am not sure what you get for the doubling, but my taxes are under 700.00 early.
I live in the "inner city,:" i.e. the 'hood, near downtown in an Arts and Crafts bungalow that I am restoring and I have no real problems there - despite some comments (mostly from the Rosewood area, which shall we, say lacks diversity)- very few break-ins, no gang activity I have ever seen - I frequently walk at night and have never had an incident - the public schools are not great but the private schools are good. To my certian knoweldge there is adrug problem in Goldsboro and much of the crime is drug related - but that problem is certainly not limited to Goldsboro.
Shopping, I must admit, does suck and the restaurant situatioon is limited.

Lets Just say Ive seen both sides of the fence, Rosewood does lack diversity but do i feel out of place? No!, I enjoy living out this way, I, it works better for my fam, we are all entitled to our own opinion. all of my fam still lives intown. BTW this is coming from an African American woman who was once raised in the "jungle" therefore I dont mind the lack of diversity as long as my fam is free from harm and danger, b/c at the end of the day that is all that matters...Right?

Run donít walk away from Goldsboro. As a career Air Force person, Iíve lived all around the world. This is the worst, depressing, nastiest most backwards city ever. I hear gunshots weekly and drugs and alcoholism are everywhere. If I can see drug sales on the streets, I don't understand why the police can't. Animals are forgotten in backyards, Veterinarians charge high prices for spay and neutering, and the animals at the shelters that are adopted, are allowed to leave without being fixed so homeless animals are everywhere.Kids that do make it out and get a higher education, don't come back.

I recently visited Goldsboro after leaving 10 years ago. I was amazed by how run down the place has become. It appears the poor economy has taken it's toll with many former stores and restaurants boarded up or completely razed. If the air base ever closes, Goldsboro will surely become a ghost town.

I would live there. In fact I was born there, and would go back, but I waited too long . My memories would make it a great place to live and I wouldn't be afraid to live there again

iam 33 yrs old and iam born and raised in goldsboro. i would say that latley the crime problem has gone up. but this is no different from places like durham and raleigh. but for the most part it is an ok city to live in. and the crime is mainly on a certain side of town, but as i said before this is no different than bigger cities there are good sides and bad sides. and once the goldsbro pd comes to grips with the fact that yes there are gangs here and actually does something about it i think it will get better, not perfect but better.
