Roosevelt Landfill workers set to strike
“We are still hopeful we are able to achieve a reasonable and mutually beneficial agreement for our employees”
Union representatives and Allied Waste Services management were continuing to negotiate earlier this week to avoid having some 150 workers at the Roosevelt Regional Landfill walk off their jobs at 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, Nov.21.
The employees, members of the Machinist's union, voted Sunday to reject a contract offered by Allied Waste Services, and to go on strike if their proposed contract isn't accepted by Allied Waste management.
Tom Barrett, a truck driver at the landfill, and two other workers, said Sunday afternoon that the employees voted 117 to one to reject the contract and 114 to four to go on strike. Read more

The union reached an agreement at 2 p.m. Wednesday, to continue negotiations, until Dec. 2.
