Hello, I am located in Coffeyville Kansas, Southwire is in the process of purchasing the company I work for (AIW). There is pretty reliable rumors that say the Plant Manager from the Kingman plant will be taking over our plant. I was wondering what he might be like. Also I was wondering what Southwire is like to work for. Do they have good health insurance, and how about 401K? Thanks for any information.

I haven't worked there but I have interviewed for a job there, good benefits, good pay and there is very rarely a job opening or news of layoffs which tells me that this company is of the very few in Kingman that treat their employees descent.

I have worked at the Southwire Kingman plant for nearly 7 years. Southwire is a good company to work for and the benefits are fair.
Dave Skinner will be your plant manager and I feel that in the time I have worked for Southwire he has been the best plant manager we have had. Safety is very important to him and he is easy to approach if you have any questions or problems.
Hope everything goes well with your employment with Southwire and welcome to the team.

Shawn you Moron, two days after you wrote this Southwire announced they are closing your plant. http://www.kingmandailyminer.com/main.asp...
In fact it closed December 2010, The reasons they bought your plant is to buy up the competition. General Cable Romex rights were included when they took over the Kingman Plant. Second of all buy buying a union plant they were able to be removed the IBEW boycott list. If you were employed there before the year 2000 you would realize how much better a company that General Cable was. They had excellent pay not good, very good benefits and not fair.

Southwire has closed due to economic conditions, But what nobody seems to understand is that the plant was originally purchased in 2001 from the previous owner for the sole purpose of getting the union (IBEW) to take Southwire off of their blacklist,(Kingman was a IBEW union plant) the IBEW was preventing union workers from working on construction jobs throughout the United States from using Southwire products. So once Southwire bought Kingman plant and kept the union, the IBEW dropped their boycott.
This is the truth, check it out.

Southwire closed the plant in Kingman,AZ (that they originally bought from General Cable to get off of the IBEW unions black list) moving to Coffeyville, KS in search of cheaper labor --- they fired Kingman employees during the last days for trumped up reasons and then objected to their apps for unemployment benifits. For the last two years in Kingman they were not paying their medical insurance billings, so the bill was reverting to the employee. They are a company that uses employees as if they are robots, extracting the absolute most they can from them and then just finding a replacement when they burn out. Google 'Southwire Bangladesh' and you will really find out how evil they are. They sent poison disguised as fertilizer overseas to get rid of their toxic waste and then tried to cover it up. Check it out.
