Wow, another accident on that road! I travel that road about twice a week, and unfortunately with the higher stakes gambling, it has become even more perilous than previously. There are people in such a hurry to go up and make their donation the casino that they pass on double yellow lines, they tail you aggressively, etc. Then on the way down, they come down drunk or extremely tired or depressed from losing the mortgage money. Add the rock slides and the possibility of wildlife crossing in front of your car - and you have really crappy odds just to get there.

Nope, you DIDN'T read this right!

My daughter was caught in the jam after the FIRST accident ( there was TWO, nice reporting, FOX31 ).

There was a sudden downpour and the cars started hydroplaning....

If you look at the picture, you see the results of that hydroplaning. This is why you SLOW DOWN during a cloudburst; you can often find that your car still goes straight when you turn the wheel...

Excellent post punnisher. Many people don't realize that driving on a wet road is about the same as driving on an icy road. Your tires are not in contact with the pavement. SLOW DOWN!

From my experience, that specific road is more dangerous to be on due to the above-mentioned reasons. My post says nothing about the current accident or two accidents that occurred yesterday. I am simply stating my opinion on the road that I travel twice a week, and have viewed in a total of ten days, three pretty bad accidents (dry road accidents - mind you). Unfortunately the drivers yesterday were unable to evaluate the effects of hydroplaning until it was too late. For whatever reason they could not clearly assess a weather condition and not make adjustment where necessary in their speed - well only they can answer that. Yes, I agree good post to remind people about the dangers of hydroplaning - very good point. One also has to be aware of the increased risk for rockslides in that area during a cloudburst as it loosens the boulders, and they come down all sizes, and they are not picky who or what they land on. Thanks for your informed reply.

All canyon roads are dangerous with blind turns, rocks, weather etc. Slow down.
