There was a gun threat at Oberon Middle school Thursday afternoon, and the parents were notified by email, and an automated phone call after school. I opted to keep my child home from school on Friday. Jefferson County School and the Arvada Police department are conducting a "Threat Assessment". I see no harm in keeping my child from school for a few days. She is taking a lot of flack from other students over the phone tho, and I am sure that the teachers told the kids who did show up today that the ones who opted to stay home were "over-reacting". It is our right and duty to protect our children in the event of ANY threat. After all, there have been over 20 school shootings in the past 7 years.

I go to obeorn too, but my mom thought it was just a normal thing and i could go to school anyway. i had a few people call me and tell me that i should stay home because of Colonbine, and i told my mom that but she said i didnt have a choice and i had to go to school any way. Luckly nothing bad happened. i kno wthe kid that threatened with the gun and he actually isnt a mean or bad kid, i was just something that he had said. its like telling someone that is he or she was going to hit you, you would hit them back, it like a normal thing. i understand that some parents freaked out because of it but think, these kids wouldnt get away with anything because of the security and protection at schools today

I think that the school system has been over reacting ever since Columbine. I was perfectly safe Friday at school. Anyways, I'd just like to say that I go to Oberon and I have to say that some soccer moms really freaked over nothing. Although that gun threats should be evaluated, this was no such threat.

People that stayed home over reacted and should have gone. There were twise as meany off duty officers there with about three on duty officers there.Teachers walked the halls instead of waiting for theirs next period classes. Everone that enterd and left the building had no choise other than to go to the front desk of leave.

To tell you the truth I think that Oberon is not a nasty school. Everyone I willing to help, and today they practiced a lock down drill. It was benificial to have them do that in case that had really happened. Plus I agree with all the people that give oberon a thumbs up!!!!!!!!

Dear ANONYMUS3: It's spelled,'ghetto'. ~~ Anyways. Oberon is a school that I have a hard time putting up with. I got pulled out of class for violating the dress code (fingerless gloves.*rolls eyes*) and they wouldn't even give me a good reason WHY I had to take them off. They said that I can't write with them. DUH! That's why I cut off the fingers! And that doesn't have anyting to do what we were originally talking about anyways. But still, Oberon is an opressive school. But maybe that's just the point of veiw of a Middle School kid. I don't count in the system.

They ask you to take off fingerless gloves because certain types of cutters cut their palms so that when they write or move their hands in diffrent ways it hurts or starts to bleed. I think thats a good reason to ask you to take off fingerless gloves. Their just as strict as any other school you just want someone to baby you throught it like elementary school. If you went to a diffrent middle school it would be just as strict as Oberon.

You know what I don't agree with ashley h or anonomus three from denver. To tell the truth I don't like what they have to say about oberon middle school. You can totally agree with anonomus 5 from denver and anonomus 4 from denver. I just think because there was a little problem that everyone would go wake at them. I say what's the big deal they took care of it didn't they. So why be mad at them at least they contacted the parents. What if your child had to come home and they had to tell you wouldn't you be way madder at them then. So that is why I don't agree with the people that say it was a nasty, getto school. P.S. I TOTALLY AGREE WITH DRESS CODE!!!!!
