What kind of information would you give someone who was looking to relocate to South Roxana, IL.

South Roxana is a fun place to live because there is not that much traffic so you can bike ride and the speed limet is low. Every year the Dads Park has a parade that anyone can walk in they also have a contest for costumes where you recieve prizes. The grade school is very good and the kids love it.

Have to agree with Cindy about South Roxana. Small midwest town, good schools. The only bad thing is the refineries are border South Roxana and some days it stinks. Other then that South Roxana is a great little town.

I grew up in South Roxana, still live here.
We rarely have trouble with any smell from
the refinery, most of that stuff gets blown
across Rt. 111 toward Hartford and the river.
The river and it's wet lands filter and
break down most of any polutants from the
rifinery that may hapen to escape by either
air born particles or greound waste.
The river takes those diluted polutants south
toward the Gulf of Mexico where they get further diluted one they hit the swamps and
marsh lands of Louisiana and Mississippi.
Yeh, I guess South Roxana is an O.K. town,
just don't say or do anything to threaten
the oil or fuel industry. And don't try to learn too much in the area schools.
They would rather suppress or oppress certain
information that limits their product's net
worth sale potential. But, if you are already
educated and looking for a decent place to
live while you work at some Bio-tech lab in
St. Louis... it is a cute little town with
a colorfull railroad history.
Andrew Carnegie stayed here before the town
was actually formed while they put the railroad
through to supervise and coorinate the steel
and iron ore processing from different area
sources... that is how Leclede Steel got
started in Alton, IL..
There are allot of little known tid-bits of
information like that about this place.
Our town is centrally located in the middle
of the Bi-State region, and all of it's
industtrial and economic centers.

South Roxana was formed as the Shell Oil
refinery was being built, before that it
was just a few old farm houses like Little
House on the Prarrie.
As the railroad came through and the steel
mills in Granite City and Alton came online
and in full production, pipes and flanges
as well has heat exchangers and boilers were
manufactured to become the major components
for the Oil Refinery that is now owned and
operated by Conoco-Philips which used to be
owned by The Shell Oil Company.
As the refinery has grown, and other towns
around it geographically, so has South Roxana.

The town of South Roxana is a place that I have called home for almost 21 yrs now. The best things about this small town is since it is such a small town, everyone knows everyone. Any time I go to the local Casey's, everyone working there knows me by name. It is nice to have that in a community. Also, another good thing is the local bars and convienient stores. It is conviently located close to almost anyone in town, another advantage of a small town. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. I love this town.

You call people "loosers" yet your spelling and grammar is absolutely offensive.

If your house is on wheels you will fit in well.

I've recently moved to Wood River this year. I have a 8 year old that I am now worried about his education seeing how Roxana and Wood River are so close.

I use to live in So Roxana 31 years ago, it was a good little town THEN, I recently took a trip back there and was shock how it looks, the water taste nasty, and the smell makes a person cough it wasn't that bad years ago. I still have friends there and it probably will be another 30 plus years before I go back. But the schools are great

We lived there 11 years ago..
Truth is the school is horrible! My daughter actually told her teacher shes not teaching her fast enough.. Thats how far behind they are! once we moved out of there she had to spend the year catching up at the next place.
The town is very racist (before you go crazy, no I'm not saying everyone in the town... But yes it is a very racist town)
Also the amount of sex offenders vs. people in the town (last time I checked) if unbelievable!!
Good luck getting police response if its night time, when I lived there they closed at night, you had to call a near by city for help..(just something I was never told until I found out the hard way)
They are in full force during the day though!! WATCH YOUR SPEED AT ALL TIMES! they don't play around my mother got a ticket for 4 miles over.. And they hide everywhere in that town..
But on the good side.. It is perfectly located.. I use to say its a 20 min drive to anywhere.
Good luck! Be sure to really do you research before moving.. We stuck it out 2 years really, wish I didn't

I spent over 30 to 45 minutes last night talking about all the things good and bad that I could find with S. Roxana. Of course however since most of them were not good at work very critical of the drug issues and the police issues it's no longer on the site

I am black and hispanic and considering moving to South Roxana for a year or two to work on my finances is there any reason I shouldn't? I have heard rumors of racial issues there??
