Glenwood Mayor May Contract Out Police Services

Mayor Durkin recently commented to a local newspaper that the Board has granted him the authority to explore farming out your police services to other agencies, including Cook County. He claims he "is drowning in the costs of police." Really? The Village has increased all fines including a $250.00 fine for Failure to Display a Village Sticker. The cost of Village Stickers was raised and it was sold to the people as necessary to prevent lay offs in the police department. The tow fees were increased from $25.00 to $500.00. The officers now have a "quota" every month to raise money. The police officers all took massive pay cuts from October through May to prevent lay offs. Some lost over $6000.00 but agreed to do so to save their jobs. What happened to this money? Were we all lied to? The police department has been running short for years. We have one detective and are short 3 officers. Do you want Cook County Sheriff's Police patrolling your town, taking over 20 minutes to respond to in progress calls? Can you say Ford Heights? These officials have wasted so much money. They hired their own attorney, on taxpayer dollar, to advised them how to strip Maggio of power. The advice they were given was wrong and illegal and got them sued by the Cook County State's Attorney's Office. They have paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to multiple Village Administrators who have done nothing for the Village but collect a paycheck. They have screwed up multiple grants which would have saved them tens of thousands of dollars. They have run existing businesses out of town (Little Guys, Dragon Inn and many more) and have been unsuccessful at getting any decent new businesses. Now they want to disband your police department. Glad I no longer live there because that town will go to hell fast!!!

When will these guys stop going after the police department? We need our officers and hope this idiocy stops. None of the residents I know want this to happen. Aren't the mayor and board members supposed to represent the citizens? If we don't want this, why is it happening? It seems as if they are listening to their egos, not their consituents!
