Some folks have questioned on another sight if the situation of a Personal Bankruptcy should be viewed as a detractor for an elected official! I am not sure why it is a discussion point, but maybe there is something to this that concerns folks! When folks are responsible for city funds and spending those funds it is a question that should be pointed out, but does it really matter in the long run?

What other site? I will have to think on this a bit. On one hand, absolutely, on the other hand, how many people that would never have imagined themselves to be in that position now find themselves in that position? So many people feel elected officials are not in touch with the people they represent, well you couldn't say that about these people could you? They may just think more about how their actions effect their constituents.

The Patch has a thread about the upcoming election candidates and in the comments by a Christina Long - she questions the one candidate that is running for City Clerk, I find that interesting that this would come up at all, so I thought about talking about it here to see what some folks think? I think it is a great discussion point in light of all the spending our City does and want to see what others ideas are about this topic!

I agree it is an interesting topic. Don't know yet how I feel about it. As I said, lots of people finding themselves in this situation due to no fault of their own.

I we discussing the situation with the person that is challenging the City Clerk's job? I believe if you review public records it might surprise voters about bankruptcy proceeding in elected officials pasts! Not sure if it should make a difference, but it really would be a question I would have to think about before casting my vote!

Interesting Topic to discuss! I would really have to worry about someone that has had issues with their own personal finances being elected to a city position, but would want to know more details beore deciding. Not the information that comes from the Smear Mongers in this election group, they just want people to think bady of these folks, when they really could be perfect candidates!

The thing I would have to ask is there any sitting Oak Forest Politicos that have been through this and why it hasn't come up in any discussions to date!
When Feeley was there it was proven that he took money, for what end not sure, but must have had some personal needs! I believe he is still paying the city back, but since he has so many folks as friends on this council, the Bankruptcy issue would be an interesting bit of news. I would believe that bankruptcies are public knowledge right? I wonder how you would find out any of that info, sure would not make me happy if there are any current council/administration folks that have experienced this and are now voting on spending public dollars.

It sure is an interesting topic. I am glad that there seem to be a few here that haven't been troubled with the economy. You can't assume that everyone that has found themselves in a bankruptcy situation got their by poor management of their finances. Neighbor around the corner had a premature baby with lots of issues. Mom had to quit her job to take care of the baby and then there were all the medical bills. So that makes them irresponsible?
We sit here and wonder why there are positions that are unopposed. People are getting beat up for just trying to be on the ballot. They know it will be a long for years if they are elected. Who the heck wants to do that?
If there isn't a law saying you can't be an alderman, or can't run for election if you have had filed for one, I don't think there isn't any way you could stop it. The first step would be to get that law enacted. I thought this was just a hypothetical, didn't realize it could be something that is a concern now.
I wonder though, if it might not just come back to bite the one making it an issue. How many houses do we have foreclosed now? All of those are from mismanagement? I don't think so. How many others are worrying every night how they are going to hold on. They just might get pissed. They might think that someone in their shoes is going to be a little less hesitant to increase that water or garbage rate.
