Why do we not have a Walmart in Braxton county. I'm tired of driving 35 miles to go to the store. Everything at Kroger is out of date. Plus their to high and the meat is not good. Food land is ok for the meat but. They don't compare to Walmart.

Not true. I know for a fact. Ask Phil bleigh , he owns the property. They dont want it. Population for the county is only 15000 and is way to low . Thats according to the main office for new prospects.

We are dying in the Retail area now...
We should support all of our local businesses
they have been here for years and are good people..
prices may be a lil higher but cheaper in the long run...
If you consider your time and fuel costs..
Support our Local Business...
WAL-MARTs are not small town friendly
read up on what they do to the locals when they come to town...

well, businesses are dying in Sutton, because of a political movement to put more housing here. yes, there is talk about a walmart coming to flatwoods located in the area across from the high school, yes it may kill businesses in Sutton, but the need for housing is greater.

That rumor has been going around for ten years! Personally I hope they stay out of Braxton. I'd like to see more stores here, but not Walmart. They pay low wages and sell cheap crap marked up way too high, but people buy it up because it's ten cents cheaper than a store closer to home and think they are saving money! I would rather pay more and know that my money is staying in the local economy. Shop local and buy American when possible. I know it's hard to find a lot of products that way but the more consumers demand it, the more jobs and better wages for everyone of us!

It's nice to think the local community would support local businesses. But look the movie theater is on the verge of closing, a number of businesses have left the outlet malls, there have been a few new businesses lately, salons, barber shop, which is a plus! But the younger people like to go to summersville and charleston where they can do one stop shopping. I would love to see a steak house, indoor flea market, and a Tudors!

I heard just recently that the theater is only a thousand away from their goal for the new projector thanks to the community's support through various fundraisers. I can't remember exactly how much they needed but it was in the $30-50, 000 range for the digital projector so I believe that is quite a feat that a small community raised that much in what....a year and a half? The teenagers go out of town for the brands they wear, always have and probably always will, even if the stores were here....I think it is more to get out of town than anything else for that age group. Shopping is the reason they tell their parents. I also agree that a nice steakhouse would be a wonderful addition to this area. We need more sit-down restaurants where families can enjoy a meal, and travellers will spend more than a few dollars on a burger at a drive-thru. I think a sports bar where people could watch the games and have a few drinks would do well here too. There really isn't anywhere for people to go out locally on a date. The stores that have come and gone at the mall have for the most part been chain stores that haven't done well nationally either so not really the area's fault for that.

I agree about New sit down restaurants, and more businesses like Wal-Mart. It's hard to get any type of good businesses when "the person or persons" won't sell their land. That's 80% the reason there is nothing in Braxton is because those types of businesses don't rent they OWN their land. I think that's what the county needs is more commercial, and more tourists attractions, But certain people don't want to watch it grow and are afraid of change so they sit back and watch the county crumble into nothing. I'm ALL for new businesses amd growth but it won't either happen.

I hope the theater will stay open! I hate to drive anywhere and love our community businesses. A sports bar would be awesome!!!! Even like a Quaker steak would be great!
