There was a huge gang fight consisting of about 300 people. Many injured. From local sources, lock down will remain in effect until sometime next week, possibly later.

It's not fair that gilmer has been locked down this long to investigate what happened up there. No investigation takes this long. Take the 120 inmates that were fighting in lock them up somewhere and let them kill each other. Don't make everyone eles suffer. Gilmer staff is doing this because they have nothing eles better to do. There jobs are now more fun. They now have an excuse to make there jobs more entertaining and exciting by locking down humanbeings and missing with their minds so they can all sit around now and talk to each other and have fun while everyone is locked in there cells less work they have to do while they collect the paycheck. Makes me sick......

I do believe the accurate number is 120 inmates involved...but Martin where did you get he information that possibily could end next week sometime...hope it is sooner, and Wendy u are ever so right! This is a game to many up there and watching them control other human beings is part of the game...makes me just as sick...prayin for all the innocent ones up there!

What makes me is is having to hear from someone who thinks they know what they are talking about, but really are just plain ignorant of the topic and how a prison operates. The staff there work 5 times harder during a lock down then they do when the inmates are out. The inmates do all the work on a normal day, but on a lockdown the staff have to do everything from feeding them to taking them to showers, taking and receiving there mail and cleaning up the housing units. You have no idea what you are talking about.
There is an investigative process that has to be done before anything can happen, and the lockdown cannot be lifted before that happens and the Regional authority has to approve it first, yes I said it REGIONAL AUTHORITY. It's not up to FCI Gilmer to just lift the lockdown, it has to come from a higher power, so please....do your homework before spouting out hate speech.

Only a public relations officer can tell you what is going on. That's policy.

well it obvious that you are either a former CO or a current CO which means you quite frankly don't much care about the same people we care about, and I am not asking to know nothing about what has happened in a prison on a whole, when i call i want someone to tell me that my husband, brother, whatever he is to that caller, that he is ok, or no he is not...I dont want him to be referred to as a dog being cut loose...yes a criminal he may be,or at least broke the law, but he is also someone's loved one, someone's father, brother or son...and those people have done nothing wrong...just loving someone is not a crime.

The security of the institution comes before public relations. If your loved one was not okay, you would have been contacted.

And contrary to popular belief, not all people who work in prisons are what your loved ones say they are. Could you imagine the lawsuits if they where? Think about that for a minute.

You and I know this, But it's hard to convince them otherwise though. I wish I could get a degree for free, I guess that is the price I pay for being a law abiding citizen in America today.
I served my country in the Army, I serve my country still honerably and willfully, I try to be the best steward of good will in my community and what do I get? Stiffed in the arse with debt and ridicule.
They break the law, go to prison and get free college and free cable. How is this fair? Only a communist justice system from the 1940's era Italy would find this suitable for an average and exceptable lifestyle. But you would have to be a communist to appreciate it, guess I just aint there yet mentally to agree to give my labor up to the people "The lazy people" I might add.
My tax dollars pay for free college tuition inside a prison and all I get is a hard time being accused of shit I didn't even do.

Grunt11b,
Not all of them are guilty!!!!!!! And how is the justice system fair?
Why is it that some idiot can murder and only get 5 years? But yet owe child support and get 10?
Some inmates need to be in completely seperate places... People that kill should never be around other people again..
Jail is supposed to be rehabilitation!!!!!!!!!!
It doesn't matter what they are in for they are still HUMAN and SHOULD be treated as so!!!!!!!
