In Glenview, work starts on Ismaili Muslim center

After overcoming a push to keep them out, Chicago's Ismaili Muslim community took the first formal step Friday toward moving into north suburban Glenview with a festive ceremony to celebrate the groundbreaking ...

The ismaili's are the remnants of the Hashashin, or "Assassins". They are not non violent at all.
Quite the contrary their reputation was made by killing Moslem leaders that they considered to not be religious enough.
We will come to regret the day we willingly allowed people into this country whose major desire is to kill or convert us.

Of the people, by the people, for the people? Residents made it clear they did not want this mosque built in their neighborhood. Obviously it doesn't matter what the taxpayers want.

I'm surprised by some of the comments I've read over the last while on this project. Being from Canada, Ismaili Jamatkhana projects have generally been more welcomed (and people who engage themselves in debate know the intricacies, such as the difference between a Mosque and a Jamatkhana). The first thing is, of course, to understand what the Ismaili community is about. The second thing is to understand what the United States is about. The perceived dichotomy doesn't really exist.

Obviously, since you are not from Chicago, this is Glenview (land of nanny-raised children and both parents working ambitious 80-hour weeks to build their mini-Mansions). I am suprised they had a chance to respond to the isssue. They must have cut out their token time that they usually spend with their accessories ,..er...I mean children.

@Mike.
Read the history of the Ismaili Community in the 20th century:
http://www.akdn.org/imamat/community_20th.htm...
@pat,
These are NOT called mosque, they're Ismaili Center or Jamatkhana, big difference if you read the details.

Its apparent that in today's day and age there are still some that do not broaden their horizons and take the time to read about or understand the basis of different communities around the globe. The Ismaili Community has similar Jamat Khanas (not Mosques) in Sugarland, TX (median household income of $86,231) and Plano, TX (median household income of $71,560) which have added to the rich and diverse culture of their respective areas. I am sure that the Ismaili Community will have the same effect on Glenview (median household income of $86,100) as it has had with other affluent suburbs and areas all around the nation as well as the globe. The beautiful buildings that will be erected and the landscaping around the general area will be a sight to see. For those of you who have not been familiarized with the Ismaili Community or any of the institutions of the Aga Khan Development Network, please take the time to visit www.akdn.org or www.theismaili.org

I know several Ismailis, and I quiete honestly say they are one of the nicest and most endearing people I know. Ignorance and bigotry seem too common in your argument. Refusal to learn, and hallow hatred cannot be the focal point to an arguement. First learn, become knowledgeable, then speak. If you do so without, you are only embarassing yourself.

I'm with the neighbors - their petition should have over-ridden a permit to build the mosque. Having live next door to a "church" I can tell you first hand it is not a picnic! They had NO consideration for the neighbors (had God on their side). Located on a crowded Chicago street in a neighborhood where parking was extremely tight they would find a car blocking their driveway. More than once or twice when blocked in at a night meeting our doorbell would be rung at midnight asking if one of our tenants (we had only two) was blocking them. IT NEVER WAS. In a city neighborhood the car could have belonged to someone two or three blocks away - we NEVER had a tenant who blocked them in 11 years in residence. They wanted to expand their structure and bring it to the lot line - they knew it would block our windows on the first and second floors. They created a playground and let the children loose early in the morning - to run, play, scream without supervision on Sunday mornings, sounds heard far and wide disrupting the enjoyment of what had once been a quiet enjoyment of rear bedrooms and decks. They rented access to their structure to a black militant group with flyers sent to bring in an audience - it did, we got the KKK marching up and down the sidewalks - which got the police. Our street was blocked at each end. Try getting home! This went on constantly. NOW with a mosque - if the neighbors complain - it will be considered discrimination and disregarded. The members of this mosque could be inclined to use this to their advantage. I wouldn't want them in my neighborhood either. Now with the real estate market tanked they will have to wait to sell and move. The neighborhood could become Middle East in a relatively short time when the mosque members begin buying close by for convenience.

I am a Ismaili Muslim for the Sugarland, TX area, and this fool who replied with the name "osama bin laden" is an idiot, cause the taliban and terrorists are sunni muslims while we are shia muslims, it's bin laden and his ppl who are also killing shia muslims. I'm sorry if this idiot offended anyone with this stupid comment. But please do your research about "ISMAILI MUSLIMS" and our spiritual leader "AGA KHAN" before you make such degrading statements and judgements.

I understand you might have anger towards all muslims But please do your research about "ISMAILI MUSLIMS" and our spiritual leader "AGA KHAN" before you make such degrading statements and judgements, and honestly after reading your support information it's totally wrong, Our goal has never been to convert or kill, we are the ones that spread the word of ISLAM being a peaceful and sane religion such as the CHRISTIAN and JUDIST faith. so once again please do your research about the words in quotations, also even the "bad stuff" you hear about us is most likely written by someone of the muslim faith but another sect of the religion, but bring facts where ismaili's have even harmed any other faith

Towards the previous post,

I do not believe you have any right to pinpoint "suni muslims" as being the sole reason for terrorism. It is muslims like you that think you are better than everyone else that causes these problems.

I am saying this as a SHIA MUSLIM and even I know better!

To All,
It doesn't matter if you are an Ismaili Muslim, any other sects of Muslim, a Christian, a Hindu, a Jewish or whatever your religion may be...
The fact is that all the religion in this world teaches us peace, respect, help, love and live our life with the highest standard of ethical practices by following laws in one's country...
We all will find most of the "Good" & some "Evil" people in every religion, in every city, in every state and in every country. Does anyone know a country where there are no laws, no security, no justice system and no prison?
So please...before you think, say, or write anything against about any religion, please EDUCATE yourself first, this is by far the best Gift you can give to yourself and your generations to come...

I watch the news and what do I see?

I see Muslims killing Christians.
I don't see Hindus or Jews or Buddhists killing Christians.

I see Muslims killing Jews.
I don't see Hindus or Christians or Buddhists killing Jews.

I see Muslims killing Hindus.
I don't see Jews or Christians or Buddhists killing Hindus.

I see Muslims killing Buddhists.
I don't see Jews or Christians or Hindus killing Buddhists.

What I don't see is Muslims condemning the killing. Oh, once in a great while some Muslim will claim that Islam has been "hijacked" by extremists, as if that excuses everything. But Muslims don't seem to care or do anything about the killing. So please stop telling us about how peaceful Islam is.

Instead, in the U.S., Muslim cab drivers are refusing to carry passengers with pork or liquor.(Then don't be a cab driver.)

Instead, in the U.S., Muslims are demanding foot baths at airports and at colleges.(How did Muslims manage before?)

Instead, in the U.S., Muslims are demanding to be able to have a drivers license photo showing just their eyes behind a fully covered head.(Sorry. Driving is privilege, not a right. A recognizable photo id is needed. So then don't drive.)

Instead, in the U.S., Muslims want to wear their clothes other than the official school athletic uniform.(Rules are rules. So don't participate.)

Etc., etc., etc.

The Muslims want the U.S. and the world to change to their culture. Why do they not assimilate in the U.S. and compromise like other cultures and religions?

What a DU Mb ASS.. did you know that Ismailis are mostly from from the Indian subcontinent. There is not one ismaili that I know that dresses like an Arab. As a matter of fact where ever ismailis move they create value and in fact your property prices will go up rather then down. As far as inviting KKK or militants you should not worried about it. They are not particularly fond of any militant groups like the KKK or Osama. Ismailis are Shias and all the militants and terrorists you speak about are Sunnis. Also 95% of muslims do no not live in the middle east. Indonesia and India and Pakistan has 80% of all of worlds muslim population. Less then 1 % muslims are radicals. Its like calling every Christian a terrorist because a few irish protestians went and bombed some mall in London killing other Christians. Grow up and you cant stop whats constant "CHANGE".

You are correct, I can say that most people in this world, Christians, Muslims, Jews and Hindus are peaceful who believe in non-violence. No one group is perfect. All communities have radicals. It's peoples ignorance and old world uneducated mentality is whats taught to them at a early age to respond in such a radical fashion.

I would say 99.9% of all Muslims from Shia, Sunnis and other sub sects as well as Christians and Jews are good hardworking wanting a better life for their kids and grandkids. I thought USA lead in such beliefs but then again we all have ignorant fools that think they know it better.

Wow I cannot believe how dumb you are! You really believe doesnt frame people, to categorize one common enemey, in order to get more of an audience. Do you even keep up with world events, did you remeber when Israeli Jews killed 103432 muslims in Lebanon for 2 prisoners. Are you watching the iraq war where a president is spending three trillion dollars and killing god knows how many muslim for a oil, and thats even working with oil prices going up. Man you must be a hick or a retard for sayying dumb stuff like that. Please go work your farm and don't make an attacking oppinion without research, and the news, esp fox news, is not a valid resource.
