Pastor Billy Dunbar says vote NO . We all know he personally can't handle alcohol ,so why should you listen to him about alcohol when plenty of other people can responsibly handle drinking it? Tourism is one of the biggest economic opportunities happening in economically depressed Russell County. At the other end of the lake Burnside Police report alcohol tax revenue has provided increased money for more police officers and equipment for citizens protection and an actual DECREASE in DUI or alcohol related arrests since going MOIST! Educated voters should consider the TRUTH of the issue rather than LIES spread by those who can't handle it.

Billy Dunbar could be better served organizing his church picking up trash along the sides of the roads beautifying our community rather than standing in the way of area economic development.

Billy, I agree with you totally 100%. I say NO to the wet dry vote. You are a wonderful person. You are not trying to stand in the way of area econimic deveopment, You are just stating your opinion, which is to vote NO , just like everyone is entitled to do...whether it be Yes or No.

Something for you to think about:

If alcohol sales were legal in our county then there would be control over the sales.
As it is now the bootleggars sell anyway and they sell to anyone that wants to buy (children, drunks) 24 hrs. a day every day, and also sell dope.

If legal, would not be enough profit to the bootleggars to stay in business. And we all know the "law" is not going to shut down these operations even thou every election, it is "vote me in and I will close up the bootleggars".

Legal sales can not sell to underage, anyone drunk, not sell 24 hrs a day and usually not on Sunday's if they want to keep their operation open.

In a "dry area" alcohol beverages can't be legally sold, BUT, It does allow any legal adult to buy and have in their home all the alcohol beverages they want.

Sure looks like legal sales places the most control over alcohol sales.

Russell County has been "dry" since probition and that has not solved the problems that you pointed out.

I'm sorry you drank your preachers KOOL-AID , as he certainly misinformed you . Restaurant alcohol sales are strictly enforced by the state to the point violators lose their liquor licenses if they sell to underage or intoxicated persons. Besides people are highly unlikely to spend the higher prices restaurants charge for alcohol just to get drunk when they can still obtsain it cheaper other places .

If ignorance is bliss, you truely are one blissful person.

I won't even waste my effort addressing your illogical and nonsensical ramblings. But I WILL point out just how hypocritical and un-christian like some of your comments really are.

You said if it passes it will be interesting to see who all is partaking in a beer or glass of wine with their dinner so they can be "cleaned out of the church pews". Is that really Jesus Christ's teachings??? To kick people out or remove them from his house of worship because they are a sinner YOUR eyes, or otherwise disagree with YOUR interpretation of his word??? If this is the teachings of your church and pastor, or the beliefs of it's members, THEN I DON'T EVEN WANT TO DARKEN THE DOORS OF YOUR CHURCH, MUCH LESS FIND A SEAT IN THE PEWS!!!

And why do you wish everyone had to post to the public how they voted??? Since when did it become any of your business how I vote on ANYTHING??? I suppose you'd also like to escort me into the voting booth and cast my vote for me too, huh???

Fortunately we still live in America and have the right to vote on matters such as this, as much as people like YOU would like to deprive us of those rights. It's also fortunate that you WON'T get to escort me into the polls and cast my vote for me, and that I DON'T have to come out of the polls and tell YOU OR ANYONE ELSE HOW I VOTED IF I DON'T WANT TO. And quite honestly I think that's what scares you the most about this whole issue. YOU ONLY GET ONE VOTE AND CAN'T TELL EVERYONE ELSE HOW TO CAST THEIR VOTE. So the next best thing is to make up all the lies that you posted to try to FEAR MONGER others into voting the way YOU want them to vote. Never mind that your lies don't even make any sense. Thanks for the amusement anyway though.

PS I really liked this part. I thought it REALLY showed your desperation to fear monger others.

"you think it will not be easier for teenagers to get alcohol sure it will if this vote passes they will get it easier and it will be on every street corner and dont believe those sale pitches that someone has thrown at you underage will get more and easier, and surely you dont believe everyone that sales alcohol will not sell to drunks your wrong again, and dont believe alcohol wont be available on sunday because it will your legal sales pitch is a bunch of crap but let your conscience be your guide but when a drunk kills one of your loved ones or one of your kids get drunk and kill his or herself or someone else their blood will be on your hands".

I have read well over 1,000 topix posts over the years and this by FAR has to be the stupidest post yet to date. How can you be so close minded and stupid? I would be willing to bet that you are one of those people that like to think that Jesus made water into Welches grape juice rather than wine huh? I dont even drink but I do believe that an american adult should have the choice, I will be voting WET and I do live in Jamestown.

Billy Dunbar is getting increasingly desperate with his fervent, ignorant radio message LIES perpetrated on local 104.9FM WJRS radio . No wonder WHVE 92.7 has chosen NOT TO GET INVOLVED in this upcoming special election forsasking ad revenue profits over having ignorance and shameful untruths originate from their radio waves.

This vote only affects about 600 registered Jamestown voters in the two precincts where it will be on the ballot.

Personally, I think EVERYBODY else should shut up, including the preachers who are not even in the voting precincts.

It affects 2 or possibly 3 resturaunts in Jamestown, that's it. There will be no stores selling it, period. It is a moist vote, not wet.

If voted in, you will be able to buy a drink, but only with your meal at any of those three resturaunts that choose to apply and be approved for a state liquor license, and only if you are over 21 years old and not on Sunday.

Those resturaunts will be required to show the state examiner their sales reciepts to prove they do not sell more than 30% of their total sales in alcohol. This means a resturaunt that wants to keep it's liquor license will monitor to make sure their food sales do not get out of synch with their alcohol sales.

You will not be able to sit at a bar within the resturaunt and order a beer without food, period.

Arguing over the illusion that this will somehow cause drunks to be all over town and families to be broken up is about as stupid and uneducated an opinion as I have ever heard about anything.

Luckily, most of the voters in the district are newer residents with a better mindset on the issue. I fully expect the miost vote will pass with a very good margin.

I also fully expect that after the vote passes you will not see any change except for things finally getting better for Jamestown.

The Wave already has enough of that no need to allow more :) ole LAR dishes out enough BS all by himself. BTW you can not reject any type of political ad they have the right to buy the air time. If someone at the wave said this it is a lie.

Uh excuse me but a moist election is not political . Apparently WHVE has more integrity than to broadcast tacky , misinformed dis-information from an advertiser unlike their competition . That is one reason WHVE consistently ranks #1 in local radio Arbitron ratings !

what does it mean "handle alcohol"???? how does someone "handle it"? because alcohol effects the body and mind basically the same in each person. anytime you digest a "drug" it effects the body and mind in some negitive compasity. so just how it is you "handle it"????

i think the mayor and judge exec need to grow a spine and step up to the plate on this issue with their support. i'm reasonably sure that they both support going moist because they recognize the positive economic impact it will have on the city and county. but they don't have any gonads and won't take a stand on either side. i hate fence riders who are afraid to say what they believe because of what someone else might think of them.
