The land of casper would be neat with a casper the ghost mansion like in the movie. Or a big white statue of casper.

Having just moved here last year, I have to say, it's windy and there seems to be alot of addiction (drugs and alcohol). But I like that it's not overpopulated, people are very friendly for the most part and it's cheap!! There are so many wide open spaces compared to anything else I've seen. I like it. We moved as far South as possibe and we haven't had any problems, Just stay out of the bad areas.

Every body has their own opinion but I will tell you mine. I am a teenager almost out of highschool and my parents and I moved here when I was 8. I still have lots of family and friends there so I go back twice a year, two and a haf weeks at a time. Personally I love it there, way more than I do here. The weather is nice except for the wind (which the wind is just as bad where I live)and the cold in the winter (which I would take before the heat here, it gets to about 112* in the summer for a long period of time plus high humidity). Its very pretty in most places and casper is a big town but there are not a lot of people in the whole state. If you don't mind cold or wind I would recomend Casper, make sure you go to Alcova in the summer though!(the lake)

Thank you for starting this thread. I'd like to move to Wyoming, too. If it turns out to be Casper, now I will know to avoid Celticcrosse.:) |

Casper is okay if u can avoid the drugs and the dope fiends. it is really bad as far as drugs and alcohol goes. Beautiful place to be though. I didn't get caught up in the dope scene but there seems to be nothing else to do but party and party hard. if u are not planning on raising ur kids there, then I say go for it! I personally miss it, but I refuse to raise my children in such an anti-christ environment.

Judged: 1 Interesting! What is the problem with Casper? Dope or religion? As i think Wyoming being the state in the U.S. with the smallest population what is so difficult in keeping it nice? Americans that don't care? |

Casper is a great place to live!

Goog to hear, An old friend is living there. |

Honestly it's not such a bad place... If you think the drug and alcohol problems here are too of a real big concern you've honestly never been around have you? It's about the same as any other school across the country. Anyway it's a typical place nothing special and boring as hell as there is NOT much to do around here which might explain everyone's b******g about drugs and alcohol.

It is sad to hear so often that people are bored everywhere "because there is not much to do around here"....I guess there is more than enough to do around but people have stopped "doing things" which were common some decades ago. We are talking about the syndrom of an affluence having continued too long in society. We spend a lot of time - doing emptyness. The consequences are destructive. |

I have been planning to visit some places in the west in the near future. How is the economy there? What about grocery prices? I currently pay about $3.00 for a gallon of milk/$1.89 for a dozen eggs. Are these prices fairly comparable there?

You will no doubt have a very interesting and unforgettable journey to the west...Unfortunaetly I have no idea or interest in how grocery prices compare there....Bon voyage! |

I lived there for 12 yrs. It's winter about 9 months out of the year, and constantly windy.
If you have kids, expect to have them in the house a lot those 9 months of winter. And to pay more for winter clothing, parkas, boots, etc. Expect also to have a great heat source for your house, as well as emergency supplies in the trunk if you travel during winter. You have to be well equipped financially to live in Casper due to the weather. It's no place for people on limited incomes, elderly or poor. That being the case, you will need a good job to pay for a late model car or truck that will not be breaking down during frequently frigid weather. If you like to garden, you have 3 months if you're lucky to grow a few vegetables,(early varieties), and if you like to grow tomatos you'd have to buy the plants 1/3 grown. No summer crops like okra or melons. The selection of very fresh fruits and vegetables at the markets was limited compared to states farther south, or around the Denver area. This is a health concern for many, including vegans and/or vegetarians. Casper has traditionally been high in suicides, perhaps because of the constant winter wind. That was what some people thought. If I were going to live in Wyoming again and face the challenges of such a cold climate, I would choose another more scenic part of the state. Casper, except for the mountain, is flat, rather barren and frankly not very attractive. I'm sorry if that rains on some of the local's parade. I'm just telling honestly what my experience was. I got out as soon as I could, and vowed never to go back to Wyoming except in the summer. Winter is nice, but not 9 months of it. I've seen 8ft of snow on the mountain in April in one fell swoop, and early snows by the 15th of August. |
