It sounds like the correct decision was made, in my opinion. Police officers are here to enforce the law and serve the public, but they need to use common sense. Everyone is a criminal if you look hard enough. Officers perform a tough, but crucial service, and it is unfortunate that guys like this degrade the public trust in agencies everywhere. The bottom line, officers need to use their discretion more wisely.

"Calif. cops use stun gun twice on unarmed amputee
(AP)– 1 day ago
MERCED, Calif.— A California man whose legs are amputated says police used a stun gun on him twice and violently manhandled him even though he was unarmed.
Internal affairs investigators say they're looking into the complaint by 40-year-old Gregory Williams, who was arrested Sept. 11 on suspicion of domestic violence and resisting arrest.
Williams and witnesses say officers tasered the wheelchair-bound man twice, then left him handcuffed with his pants down on the sidewalk in broad daylight. Williams spent six days in jail before prosecutors said they lacked evidence to charge him.
Merced officers said in a police report that Williams was uncooperative and refused to give his 2-year-old daughter to Child Protective Services. The police department has declined further comment, pending the internal investigation."

Disclaim the videos about ACORN, 5 of them, but one little article about this and the cops are convicted and sent to the gallows even though there is no evidence, at your posting, and you know very little about it. Not real consistent on the objectivity now are we?

Oh get off it... Have you ever been to Glenrock? Do you know much about the area? Or the people?

I do. My grandparents farm was about a mile out of Glenrock. The Wyoming winds and cold made it difficult to make a crop, but they persevered.

What I'm getting at is that rural communities ARE different. Sometimes the "nitty gritty" and quite frankly petty codes on the books are given some "latitude" dependent on the circumstance. You don't know all of the circumstances, so stop judging this man.

I've seen farmers in Nebraska stop their pickups dead in the middle of the street to compare their field corn. You going to taze them too?

And Barb, yes this case doesn't pertain to Alamogordo. But it does point out that really stupid things happen sometimes when people "in authority" mis-use that authority. I believe that is the "real" story.

I've had family in Wyoming since it was truly the wild west (mid 1880s). We truly lost something when the justice of the west was lost.

Then maybe those two boys who tazed the ol'man for driving his tractor the "wrong way" would have truly gotten what they should have had coming to them.

Ken the man wasn't unarmed. It was his legs that had been amputated. so he was unlegged.

Tazers for old men in their 70's, or those who can't kneel down, or are double amputees in wheel chairs? That is above and beyond what those devices should be used for. The police can tell who is truly unruly and menaing harm to someone and should be stopped short of lethal force. We read the story of the double amputee and were just as amazed as everyone else.

Some "law enforcement officers" are quick to use force when face to face contact might do the job better. An Oakland transportation cop wishes that he had looked twice before using any mechanical assist in subduing an unruly rider now. He said he was reaching for his taser but got his sidearm instead and shot a man while he was being held down on the floor. Mistakes happen, and we don't need old guys being tazed and possibly having medical ussues leading to their deaths, which has also happened more than once here.

Did the guy violate the law? Did he not stop when the officers told him to? What it comes down to is he did something wrong. If the guy was 18 or 80 shouldnt matter HE DID SOMETHING WRONG.
