When they don't sell and you're in a hurry, the insurance money sure looks nice.

Hope this isn't home owner arson for the insurance money. Their next home will be the Graybar Hotel. If it does prove to be the case, then the home owner was really stupid.

That insinuates the owners had something to do with the fire. However, did you stop and think...it would be a bit hard to fake a lightning bolt???

Didn't see anything in the story that said fire was caused by lightning.

Lee, can you fill in the facts? The story was a bit light.

The house was not vacant, it was being leased. The upstairs was hit by lightning, blew the roof and started the fire. That's pretty much all there is to tell. A friend sent me the story after reading the first comment. It just upsets me that people don't stop and think there might be more to the story before they make statements putting someone's character into question.

Thanks Lee. These forums are great when folks that are closer to the incidents can provide some details and I appreciate your comments. I know lighting can take out a house and pretty quickly since the fire will run down the electric wiring in the house. Had a neighbor some years back that had that happen. The "full story" links are hardly the full story. You are right about people jumping to conclusions. Surprised no one insinuated it was a meth accident!

With the storms, there is no telling what caused the fire. Everyone can jump to conclusions, but the Fire Marshall has the final word. Lightning did hit one of the tanks at the fuel farm in Glenpool about a year or so ago. The fire was contained fairly quickly. Just proves anything is possible.

Well "Lee", that mentioned the lightning, is my sister and it is one of our parents homes.
It WAS hit by lightning. You can either call the fire marshall and ask him, or the security guard that saw it happen. The lightning hit a gas water heater causing the explosion.
That's not the only millions dollar home they own. Do you really think they need the insurance money? It'd be a lot easier and safer to sell it.
Any other questions?

Lightning and gas water heaters don't make a great combo! That would sure account for the explosion and blowing the roof. So sad. Looked like an awesome home. Think Lee mentioned it was leased--those folks OK or hadn't they moved in yet?

I'm trying to figure out where this house is since Glenpool and Jenks FD responded. I'm thinking south of town.

Yes,'Lee' mentioned that the home was being leased, was anyone hurt? I am really hoping the answer to that one is no.

No. The people leasing it were fixing the floor so they hadn't completely moved in yet. That's a great thing considering the top floor is where their kids would have been!

Sapulpa FD actually ran on it as well. It is just off of 121st Street. West of the new Wal-mart addition.
Sapulpa address, Glenpool limits, Jenks phone number...one of those deals. Right on the border of everyone.

No big deal, after thinking about it I realized I probably would have said the same thing had it been someone else. Especially not knowing about the lightning.

Sad thing to lose the house, but thankful that no one was injured or killed. Best of luck to all of those involved.

For those of you who are interested I was the first on the scene and this is exactly what I saw.

I was leaving walmart on 121st near highway 75 when I saw a glowing light and smoke behind a treeline. My gf and I decided to drive over there to see what was going on. I saw a house on fire so we pulled up to see if anyone needed any help. There was no one standing outside the house and no other neighbors were out so I called 911 at exactly 12:54 pm. After ringing about 7 or 8 times Jenks 911 picks up the phone. I tell them there is a house on fire (at this point in time a section of about 15-20 feet across was on fire on the northwest side of the roof). They said it was not their jurisdiction and then I was either hung up on or got disconnected. I called 911 again and was connected to either Sapulpa or Tulsa 911 I wasn't really sure what she said. I told them exactly where I was and that there was a house on fire, she said it wasn't her jurisdiction and tried to transfer me to Jenks 911. I told her I just got off the phone with them so she tried to figure out who was actually "responsible" for this. In the meantime I noticed a security truck had pulled up and he was on the phone as well assumably with 911. I asked him if anyone was in the house because he was running around the front yard and he said he wasn't sure. A few minutes later a couple cops cars showed up. I was still on the phone with 911 while this was all going on. I told her that a couple cops just showed up and I was promptly hung up on. I figured since the police were there they knew about it so I left and when I was driving down the road I saw a fire truck heading west on 121st towards the fire. By this time the entire roof was on fire and you good see flames coming out of vent holes where the attack space would be. I couldnt believe the dispatchers though were more worried about who's problem it was over getting someone there as fast as possible but then again this is only from one perspective. Ironically enough my mom is a first responder for Red Cross and she got called out to the fire so I went back out at around 1:45 to see the damage. There were several fire trucks on scene (maybe 4 or 5) and the house was still burning pretty good. For those of you who think this was arson I would highly doubt it. I got there pretty early and it looked as if an isolated section of the roof was on fire as if it was struck by lightning (there was a terrible lightning storm going on at the time). So there you have it, for those who are interested in the facts and not just here to voice their 2 cents. For those people I say keep the change
