I say if the guy wanted to get high so what people at partys secretly pass pills around anyway some people are so stuck on the idea of abuse but 10mg for one person and another person may need 100mg for an equal effect you see docs don't ask their patients if they are getting enough analgesia but they really should this bisniss of abuse is stupid and childish get high f??k

that would depend on your personal drug tolerance I am on 240mg of methadone daily yet even with all the other pills I hardly feel it but I know it is doing something or I would not be on it for 23 years wish I could get high, but anyway talk to your doc first not here this is probly the wrong place to ask but if the morphine is imediate release then you might be ok but I nmay be wrong so ask your doc ok

I find it sad that people just want to abuse these medications. I have terrible nerve damage that has led to RSD/CRPS (Complex Regional Pain Syndrome) as well as MS. As a 21 year old you couldn't begin to imagine the hoops I have had to jump through to get the correct pain medications because so many people abuse their pain meds. I am on Opana er which by the way is specially made so people cannot abuse it. It contains a silicate I believe so when anything liquid or moisture it turns into a very thick gel almost like liquid nails. Thus making Opana virtually impossible to abuse, when snorted it gels in your sinuses etc. Also there is no way that you could inject iv. I know this because as a Psych Major I like to educate others about the dangers of these types of medications. I am also on a fairly moderate dose of roxicodone. The point is, when so many people abuse pain medications it makes it harder for people like myself to get the medication I need, thank god for my pain doctor but I had to pretty much sign my life away to get the medication. There is a huge difference between abuse and need. I cannot make it through the day without my medication and am on crutches until the day comes that I will require a wheelchair. Anyways I just find it upsetting that because of people who abuse narcotic medications people who really truly need them have such a hard time getting them. Its even worse that some of you have doctors that don't mind to give you tons and tons of pills when there are ways to control pain without scripts of hundreds of pills, granted some people need them but that should solely NEED them to manage their pain. And to those of you with doctors that are loose with their prescription pads should have their medical license's taken away. They are just adding to the drug abuse epidemic. Just remember when you abuse medication it makes it that much harder for someone like me to receive their essential medications.
I have to agree w/you!! I have chronic sever neuropathy that has now transformed into severe neuritis. I need my pain meds. And I live in the most conservative state in the US. It's hard to get pain meds even through pain management. I beg you people to please stop abusing pain meds so people who really have to have them to even get out of bed in the morning.. I need my pain meds and abusers will ruin this for me. I won't have any kind of life at all. Thank you!

I hear what a few of you are saying about people abusing this medication, thus making it harder for people with severe pain to get prescribed insane amounts of opiates. Then again, a good doctor will want to keep you from being over-medicated regardless of how bad your pain is and seek alternative methods BESIDES just writing scrips for 200+mg of oxy or 100+mg of opana everyday.

And for whatever it is worth, I know probably about ten people personally who are in legitimate pain and are personally prescribed these narcotics in the amounts mentioned above, and they STILL prefer to crush/snort their meds. Why? Because it works better, simply put. It hits harder (call it getting high if you want, I don't care, thats a fact) and much more immediately. Doing so may make their addiction a bit worse, but those people find it beneficial, and in my opinion they still deserve those meds, even though they aren't taking them in the way they're told to through their doctor/directions on the bottle. Realistically, doctors/pharmaceutical companies themselves are NEVER going to tell their patients to take their medicine any other way besides orally (thats EVERY MED in the majority of cases) or through IV (which is rare, yet obviously the most harmful to the user and provides the greatest risk for overdose).

My point is not everyone that tampers with their pills is a junkie just looking to get high. Many are just looking for faster/better relief to their own problem.

And to the chick saying that Opana ER's can't be abused, you are very, very incorrect. Every single person I know who takes them snorts them. I'm just saying...And while I feel bad for you and your condition, you had to jump through hoops to get prescribed large dosages NOT because of the other people that abuse these pills, but because a good doctor isn't going to prescribe a 21 year old with no history of using pain medication large dosages. Just because you might have immediately needed (X-amount) of mg's daily for your pain right from the beginning, that large amount could have killed you on your first day of using. They don't want to be responsible for over-medicating and thus killing their patients, nor do they even want them building tolerances/habits to these meds where its going to be nearly impossible to get off EVER.

I just got Exalgo and I don't know yet what to think of it, I was on Oxycontin 40 3x a day after a failed lumbar fusion, it help so much, gave me my life back, then the FDA allowed Purdue to make it abuse proof thanks to all the little kiddies kicking the bucket. I'm allergic to Polyethylene Glycol, found out after trying to use Miralax. I didn't realize that they were using it to make the OC tamper-proof until after a nasty reaction. A reaction to Polyethylene Glycol can include a rash,(I had one on my face) abdominal pain and cramping, and nausea. I have psoriasis and the new OC and Opana made it flare up when it had been in remission for 6 months. After the OC experience and the bad reaction they switched me to 0PANA er, was doing great stable on the same meds with no changes for a year now Endo has done the same thing to Opana. I blame the FDA, they are busy sucking off lobbyist and drug companies just like they did with Nutrasweet back in the 80's. In Great Britain they can't put Polyethylene Glycol in things or human consumption so you can get the real OC, I need to go use my NHS card and get some.
I've just taken the Exalgo normaly for 2 days now, I hurt all the time but my DR said give it a few days to build up, more than anything my tummy is suffering I had a burning in my stomach last night that had me curled up on my bed and then puking my guts out. I hope it wasn't the new stuff, I need something that works my fusion is fubar and my legs hurt all the time. PS I take Roxicodone for break through pain 20mg 6 times a day. If you know of any other extended relief med that works let me know I've tried OC, Opana, Fentanyl Patch, and now Exalgo.

I take 3-16mg exalgo now instead of 3-60mg opana...the exalgo lasts as er for 24 hours...I do see double every now and then but is great for the pain...opana worked well until they reformulated and now it sucks just like oxy's

I could not agree with you more!!!!!! W/O going into a lenghty diatribe about my list of conditions....I too am extremely opiate tollerant. Just 3 days ago I started taking EXALGO. I take four(4) sixteen(16)mg's daily. I also get 90tabs of some kind of Fentanyl that the Pharmacy won't have 'till later today...I gorgot the name of it....you place it between your gum and cheek...dissolves quickly. The 64mg of hydromorphone works great for me! I was on almost 800mg of morphine ...this works better. Mind you....my intention to get high is not my priority....but I'd be a liar if I were to say I didn't enjoy the overall relaxation I receive from the tablets

Yes, I agree that the Exalgo works better than most other opiate. I too have an extreme opiate tolerance. I had to go through an appeal in order to take 8 (eight) 16mgs a day. I also take two other pain meds with it.

Hi,
I was just prescribed Exalgo, a once-a-day, time released pain killer that uses a push-pull sysytem to deliver a constant dose of hydromorphone.
Out of curiosity I tried to cruch one without very much luck. I then proceeded to cut the pill in half & found (inside) one half was a VERY TIGHTLY COMPACTED white matter & the other half was a very tightly compacted gray matter. The whole thing is surrounded by what seems to be a pretty heavy-duty plastic-type shell with a pin-point hole in the center of the one side. My understanding is that the "hard candy shell" is passed out through the stool after the drug does its job in your digestive system.
So....doe anyone have any experience with these new Hydromorphone ER pills yet? They seem to be pretty abuse resistant. Just curious what others have experienced.

Thank you so much for saying don't judge. It's so true that people do not understand what pain due to nerve damage is. I recently had a spinal fusion and the pain is unbearable. Not the pain from the surgery the pain from the nerve damage. I am only 27 and this is my second back surgery. The first one which was a diskectomy seemed to help and my life got back to normal. I got pregnant at 25 and due to the shifting of my body my disk reherniated and it split in half. I was put through physical therapy for 9 months. They preformed the second surgery only because I became incontinent, bot urine and bowel. Anyways I was prescribed exalgo er and dilaudid 2 12mg once daily and 8mg every 4 hours. This medication does absolutely nothing to relieve my pain. I am currently not taking anything because either way the pain remains the same and I am afraid of becoming addicted to them. I have a two year old daughter and my husband is in the navy so he's never really around. I am so annoyed right now cuz I have no pain relief and I have a pain management doctor that I feel is not managing my pain. I believe I have a high tolerance due to the amount of time I have been on opiates. The dilaudid worked only about four times via iv in the hospital. I'm just at a loss right now...my heart aches for all of you that are in serious pain and my empathy goes beyond words.

ok, i want to know why doesn't anyone go on Dilaudid HP. you inject 10mg of Dilaudid four times a day and it works awesome for me.. screw taking all those pills. Have your Dr. prescribe you Diauldid HP and it comes in 10mg ampules that you stick into your shoulder. it last for six hours. you can also get 20mg Opana injectable too. so stop using the pills and start injecting the stuff. its better for pain and you don't have to grind it and do all that stupid shit you guys are doing... so remember its called Dilaudid HP. GET IT!!!!!

I have to agree with you I have been dealing with pain meds for about 8 yrs I've had back surgery which ended up causing nerve damage I'm only 40 now and I have arthritis in my hips and knees I hate having to take any pain meds. People do judge you if u r on pain meds i don't abuse my meds I was on opana first but it turned me in to a very irratible person so now I'm on exalgo. I still have to take breakthrough meds but not nearly as much as before so I'm better. Reading some of these post really makes me think......no wonder people automatically think if ur on pain meds u abuse them. I never thought of snorting my meds or shooting it up....

I started out on Norco and graduated from 10 of those a day to 30 to 40 a day. Then I was on suboxone for a few years and oddly enough they did help me with pain and withdraw. When my doctor retired from practice I was left out in the cold and was forced to go back to narcotics, which was a sad day for me. But I tried methadone, which gave me bad migraines, then went to morphine sulfate IR 30mg and have been on that for a few years now. Even though the morphine works great it just wasn't doing the trick like I would like to function properly. Now on exalgo 12 mg for the last 4 days and I have to say it's doing the trick well, but I noticed because of my high tolerance that I might need something stronger maybe in mg's. Maybe change up my breakthrough morphine to something stronger, any suggestions?
