The toll of time

One of Akron's greatest landmarks is easy to overlook - even though it's at the top of a hill.

I used to live on Oak Park Drive, right by Glendale Cemetery, back in the late 70's. One one of my walks through Glendale, I discovered the bell tower. This is the first time I've heard it's history.

i wonder why no one makes an effort to get another clapper for the bell?

Maybe since the tower's been out of use for so long, there's too much damage to the infrastructure and it just wouldn't be feasable to put it all back into working order.

I wish they would go to the trouble to restore it. I would lve to hear it peal. But I guess I am just a sfotie at heart . . . especially about historical things.

i totally agree! i'm a softie too when it comes to historical things...

the city will GIVE big companies millions to stay here, why can't they spend some money on something that is of historic value to the city?

I wonder if they've done any landscaping tot he grounds around it. It was nothing but weeds and underbrush when I was there 30 years ago.
