Brother arrested in North Hollywood text message slaying

http://www.glendalenewspress.com/tn-818-0916-...

By The Los Angeles Times

September 16, 2011 | 4:42 p.m.

A new arrest was made Thursday evening in the 2009 North Hollywood slaying of a teenager who was shot in the head just hours after sending an insulting text message about another teen.
According to authorities, 19-year-old Mike Yepremyan sent a text message to his girlfriend, calling her friend a “bitch.” The girl he insulted saw the text, authorities said, and asked her brother to beat up Yepremyan.

Soon after, Yepremyan began receiving phone calls from a stranger who asked him to meet him at a Sears parking lot in North Hollywood, according to witnesses.

Yepremyan and several friends drove to the parking lot and encountered two men; one struck the 19-year-old and the other pulled out a gun and shot him in the head, authorities said.

The alleged shooter and the woman who was insulted were previously arrested and charged, but on Thursday, authorities arrested the woman’s brother, saying he was an accessory to the crime.

HOVIK DZHURYAN, 19, was taken into custody late Thursday evening at his Van Nuys home, said LAPD Det. Thomas Townsend.

An indictment released Friday accuses Dzhuryan of setting up the fatal parking lot meeting after getting the call from his sister. Authorities, however, say Dzhuryan was not in the Sears parking lot when the slaying occurred.

Dzhuryan and his sister, Kat Vardanian, have both pleaded not guilty to conspiracy charges, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

The alleged shooter, Zareh Manjikian, and the man who allegedly struck the victim, Vahagn Jurian, are charged with murder. Both have also pleaded not guilty.

The indictment also named another member of the group, Lazar Petrosyan, who authorities said is being treated as a witness, not a suspect.
Thursday’s arrest is the latest turn in an investigation that had initially left the family of the slain teen deeply frustrated.

Manjikian, the alleged shooter, was not arrested until more than a year after the shooting and, even then, a judge in Puerto Rico, where he was picked up, granted him bail and he disappeared.

Manjikian was able to use his brother’s ID to fly out of the island territory, first to Philadelphia and then to Las Vegas, before surrendering in July in Van Nuys.

Authorities are planning on trying all four defendants together.

“This sends a message to everyone,” said John Nazarian, a private investigator hired by the slain teen’s family.“You can’t just kill an innocent boy and with some clever manipulation get away with it.”

VIENNA, Va., September 20, 2011 — The only known Armenian to have served in the Civil War, Khachadour Paul Garabedian, is being recognized with a new grave marker in a Philadelphia cemetery on Saturday, October 1, thanks to an anonymous $10,000 donation and the dedication of fellow Armenian-Americans.

Garabedian was born in the small town of Rodosto near Constantinople (now known as Istanbul) in Turkey, on August 25, 1836, and immigrated to Lowell, Mass. in the late 1850s. There he worked as a machinist and became an American citizen.

In 1864 at the age of 28, he enlisted in the Union Navy. Engineers were in demand at the time, and his years of working in the mills in Massachusetts made him a desirable recruit. He enlisted as a Third Assistant Engineer, holding officer rank, and served upon two ships, the USS Geranium and the USS Grand Gulf, both blockade ships, deployed to cover Southern ports along the Atlantic Coast and later on in the Gulf of Mexico.

Garabedian’s letter of appointment was reported in the Lowell Daily Citizen & News of August 11, 1864, part of which said:

"We record this appointment with pleasure. The young gentleman is an Armenian by birth, but has become not only naturalized, but is thoroughly indoctrinated in liberal and loyal principles. We have no doubt at all that he will acquit himself honorably and usefully in the position assigned him."

The USS Grand Gulf, on which Garabedian primarily served, had a steam engine and was screw propelled. With a top speed of 11.5 knots, armed with one 100-pounder, two 30-pounders, and three 8-inch guns, it was highly effective as a blockader. She was credited with sinking a number of blockade-runners along the coast.

You sound like a child when you write like that. There was an article in the Glendale News Press called President of Armenia vists Glendale. It is here http://www.glendalenewspress.com/news/tn-gnp-...

President Serzh Sargsyan called on members of the Diaspora to visit their homeland “regardless of whether they like our government or not.” People in Armenia don't like the government becuase they have made Armenia a shit hole. That is why they have left Armenia. If it was good to live there they would have stayed. This is an Armenian crime page. What they have done to the country is criminal.

Please, it is important that you document your source. I found the article.

"Suspect ID'd in CSUN Gun Scare"

Schools officials have identified a California State University, Northridge philosophy student whose alleged comments about having a gun triggered a daylong law enforcement response and partial campus shutdown.

Gahren Moradian, 22, of Burbank surrendered to authorities about 8 p.m. Tuesday, CSUN's Christina Villalobos told City News Service.

The gun scare started with initial reports to university police about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Witnesses said a man was at the library wearing a white T-shirt emblazoned with the words "human rights violation."

This is a piece, the whole story is here: http://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/local/CSUN-...

Anybody lose a couple of stoned Armenians on a run to Humboldt for some green buds?

"Law enforcement arrested two Los Angeles men Monday night for their alleged participation in marijuana distribution after the men checked in with a large duffel bag and reportedly had an odor of pot coming from their rooms.
Armen Khachatryan and Vage Ovsepyan were booked in the Humboldt County jail on charges of possession and purchase for sale of processed marijuana, possession of narcotics and probation violation. The authorities seized approximately 30 pounds of marijuana and more than $30,000 in cash."

See my reply on the other thread. Glendale kicked over the rock and they all scampered away like roaches. They have been exposed here. So they have to move on to other unsuspecting places.
