While I was one of Bishop Nienstedt's associates at The Shrine of the Little Flower in Royal Oak, Michigan, I could not help but note -- and be positively affected by -- two very important characteristics that set him apart from other pastors with whom I worked over the years. Bishop Nienstedt is a man of prayer, and then he is thoroughly a "churchman" ... and those in that order.
Both are characteristics sadly lacking in our American Catholic episcopacy. Be grateful that those to whom our Holy Father assigned him received one with his priorities in right order. God's grace will do the rest ... in spite of, or because of the Bishop.
