October 11, 2010 — As we enter the final 22 days of the election, I think it is important that we focus on the issues of most concern to Minnesotans. To that end, over the next three weeks, I will be highlighting the role that the State Auditor can play in controlling reckless government spending.

“My experiences as Mayor, Commissioner, and Auditor have taught me a lot about the struggles of economic downturns and how to deal with them. Similarly, the staff of the State Auditor’s office has spent years, and in some cases decades, examining the details of state and local budgets. With this combined experience, we will work with communities across the state, using our expertise to help them govern efficiently and save taxpayer dollars,” said Anderson.

“Having served as Mayor, Commissioner and business owner during difficult economic times, I have had to make cuts in the face of reduced revenues. Each time, through thoughtful planning, we emerged stronger than before,” said Anderson.

“With a $5.8 billion deficit looming, we must make the tough decisions to balance our budget. At the same time, we must be responsible with our cuts, insuring we cut inefficiencies and not essential services.
